I played with 5-6 buddies of mine over the summer once a week, small stakes .50/1.00 only, and myself and another one of my friends got into an argument with 2 other guys one night on how AA vs AK/AKs is far superior. For some reason my friend and I couldn't convince them that AA would win the majority of the time. They were all hooked on flush and straight draws having better odds with AK/AKs, yet little did they know how slim it was. We were giving them the numbers and percentages yet they still would not believe us. We had a laugh. But hey, I guess if my friends want to play like that they can, just gives me more money I suppose.

What do you guys think about the whole AA/AK situation?

It sounds like you already know the numbers, but just in case...

From twodimes.net/poker:

pokenum -h as ks - ad ah
Holdem Hi: 1712304 enumerated boards
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
As Ks 197131 11.51 1493670 87.23 21503 1.26 0.121
Ad Ah 1493670 87.23 197131 11.51 21503 1.26 0.879

If they still like AKs, you should make a few bets and deal a few hands. You'll make a ton of money and persuade them quickly.

Gold - AKo - It can make a straight just as easily as AKs, but can make flushes in two different suits! Plus, I have a friend who is a professional poker player who says that AKo is better than AKs -- he must be right!

Silver - AKs - It can make a straight more easily than AA but can only make a flush in one suit. However, since it is easier to make a straight than a flush, it is better than AA.

Bronze - AA - This is not a very flexible hand as it is difficult to make straights and flushes. Since the average winning hand in poker is three of a kind, it is imperative to have a hand that is able to easily make a straight. One pair simply will not win very often.

Try this.

Make them put their money where their mouth is. Say you'll take AA versus their AKs for $10 a hand. No betting just you deal out 5 cards and whoever makes the best hand wins. If they really believe what they say you'll make a killing.

hehe Tosh not a bad idea, but since my friends are extremely loose and dont have lots of knowledge on poker as well as I do, walking away 60 dollars up a night isnt bad when I only start with $10 while everyone else starts with $20 :P

Homer, I find your analysis very shortsighted. You clearly forgot:

Platinum - A9o - Able to make every straight from a wheel to Broadway in addition to dual flush capability, A9o is clearly the most powerful hand in Hold Em.
