View Full Version : raising on draws
I'm in the big blind with 10-j suited. The flop comes 8-9-2 all unsuited. I bet. Good move or bad move? I figured I had 14 outs (the open-end straight and the two overcards.) All I needed was 3 callers to make my bet a positive move. Right? I did get my straight!

Or zero /images/graemlins/grin.gif.
If there were a lot of players in the pot, I would bet this draw, expecting that I would get enough callers to make this posev. If there were few players in the pot, I would bet this draw, hoping to win the pot, here or on the turn without improvement, or hoping to catch one of my outs, by the river if I needed it.
Good bet.

You've actually got 8 clean outs, but your two overcards could bring someone else a straight, while only giving you top pair, mediocre kicker. You need to take this into consideration when calculating your outs.
I'd bet it though.

I like the move.
I think a bet in this spot should become almost routine. Did you consider a check raise semi bluff?
