Big Name Player Can't Protect His Hand?

A good friend of mine played in the main event of the WSOP this year and sat next to a big name player on the second day. Apparently, this highly respected pro was (I can only assume accidentally) exposing his cards to my buddy, and consequently, my friend was able to completely 'outplay' this poker celebrity.

I couldn't believe this when I heard it, but I am sure my friend would not make this up. How is this possible?
