Party 0.5/1

I get [ A /images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif ] in the BB.

UTG limps, EMP raises (no read yet), folded to me and I call, UTG calls. 3 see the flop.

Flop [ 8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif, Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif, J /images/graemlins/diamond.gif ]

I check, UTG checks, PFR bets, we both call? This seems wrong now that I look at it. I have a nut flush draw, a gutshot straight draw, an overcard. I think I should have bet out.

Turn [ 6 /images/graemlins/spade.gif ]

I check call and UTG comes along too.

River [ A /images/graemlins/club.gif ]

Well I made top pair and this made me think I have the best hand. I check with the intention of check-raising, sure enough he bets, I raise, we lose UTG, he calls.

Questions: Was the check-call on the flop weak?
Was the check-raise on the river the right play?

Results later.

PFR shows AKo for the win.

I think the check call on the flop is better than a bet. I would also just check call the river. Your pair of Aces isn't going to win nearly enough to make check raising profitable.

I don't think check-raising the river is a good play. You're just not ahead of many EP preflop raising hands, AK, AQ, AA, QQ, JJ. Pretty much all you can beat is KK. Calling is okay, though.
