1 hand from Stars NL Tourney last night. 970 entries. Approx 300 left. I am slightly above average with chips T3340. Opponent in this hand has T2950. Blinds 75/150

I'm dealt K7o in the SB. Folded around to me, I complete. BB checks.

Flop: 7 8 K rainbow. I check hoping to check/raise. BB bets 300. I raise to 1200. BB calls.

Turn: Q (suit doesn't matter). I push all in. BB calls.

River: Q.

Of course, BB turned over Q8 for the rivered boat. I busted out of tourney soon after this.

Please crtique my play on this hand.

You got all your money in when your opponent had four outs. This is about as good a situation as I can imagine. You played it fine, you just didn't win the hand.

970 entries. Approx 300 left.

If this is true, then this is not:

I am slightly above average with chips T3340.

You may be above the median, but average is ~4700 chips.

This was based on the Tourney stats board. High stack was around 12000 and low was like 200. I guess you would say its the average on the curve based on high low stacks. Average showed as 3200 or close to this.

Stars gets their averages right, so either you were looking at an out of date Tourney stats board, you misremembered the average #, or you misremembered the number of participants (or remaining number). Perhaps this was the tourny with 647 entrants?

It seems to me like a bad beat. I want my oppenent to call everytime in that situation.

No, it was the $1 NL tourney at 22:30. It actually had 999 entries. I finished 277th.

Not really sure, I looked at the stats just a bit before this hand and it said High 16000 approx, average 3200 approx, low 254 approx (Or somewhere around these numbers).

I understand if you take the total chips and divide by the remaining players you get X. But that doesn't account for higher and lower chip stacks does it? ie. 1 player has 16000, 1 player has 300, the average for 2 players is 8150. But neither one have this average. I'm no mathematician, I'm just going by what I remember. IN my old age I might have been mistaken.

I think you should raise preflop. However after that, I don't think there's anything you can really do.
