the expose trade for cliff floyd. the expos are owned by MLB. MLB hates the yankees because they spend lots of money. MLB trades Floyd to the yankees biggest competitor for a AAA pitcher with a 5 era and another crappy prospect.

QED i say! :-)

When the Expos traded for Floyd, they were in the wildcard race. Since they acquired him, they dropped out of the race, and thus did what Montreal always did at this time of the season--trade established veterans for minor leaguers (and often with the Red Sox).

The two prospects the Expos got were the Sox' two best pitching prospects. There is a discussion of this on ESPN.com today if you are interested in reading it.

It is also notable that nobody offered the Expose anything better than what the Sox offered.

In an unrelated matter, Selig waived a rule (involving payments of greater than $1 million in transactions made after June 1) to allow the Yankees to acquire Mondesi earlier this season. So the Yankees have had their own share of breaks.
