Rumor on Internet Today: Gray Davis will Resign Instead of Recalled

Apparently the governor's chair would go to the California lieutenant gov who is a Democrat. In that way Democrats stay in control.

Nope, the recall election would continue. Plus Gray and the Lt. Gov do not play well together.

I heard some talk about this yesterday on Fox News. A Davis resignation would create a legal mess. Nobody really knows what would happen.

The constitutional requirements for the recall process have all been met and, therefore, the recall election must happen. It will not be stopped by a Davis resignation. However, it's not clear what the results of the election would mean if Davis resigned and the Lt. Gov. took over.

Undoubtedly, this would end up in the California Supreme Court and be about as messy as the Florida recount.

As Wake up CALL said, Davis and Lt. Gov Bustamante (sp?) don't get along and apparently don't even deal with each other. Davis isn't going to do him any favors and is probably such a self-involved prick that he wouldn't even do it for the Democratic Party.
