NOTE: Pillock - Rude English [British] for someone who is full of his or her own self-importance. "Pillocks" are usually very noisy, with fixed opinions.

A certain Mrs. Taylor told a story about a short-staffed greengrocer who employed a boy as temporary help.

‘A customer came into the shop and asked to buy half a head of lettuce. The boy was a little confused about this so he went to the back of the shop to consult the owner, saying, “There is a pillock out there who wants to buy half a lettuce.” At this point he realized that the customer had followed him and was standing behind him, and he quickly added, “And this gentlemen wants to buy the other half.” The owner cut a lettuce in half and sold it.

Later the owner said, “That was very bright of you, boy. Where do you come from?”
“Limerick, “ says the boy.
“Well, why did you leave Limerick?”
“Boring. In Limerick you are either a rugby player or a whore.”
“Boy, I’ll have you know that my wife is from Limerick,” said the owner.
“Oh yes,” said the boy, “and what team did she play for?” ‘
