I'm looking to get started playing online hold 'em. I was looking at some of the sites and it seems party poker has the highest rake by far. Is this just my imagination or is it 10%?
Onto another issue...
How much can a good players expect to make per hour after rake at a .50/1.00 table. A 1/2 table?
Also what sites have good and bad players?
Sorry I have a lot of questions, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never played these limits so I don't know for sure. But I think about 3BB/hr per table is reasonable.

I don't believe it is 10%, although the rake is quite
high at .5/1 and 1/2.

At 1/2, I believe they take 0 when the pot is below $10, 50 cents
after pot reaches $10, 1 dollar after pot reaches $20,
2 dollar after $40 and top out at 3 dollar after $60.
Somewhat less when table is shorthanded. I could be wrong.

Assuming I am right, this means that sometimes the rake is 0,
but statistically it is around 3-4%. I haven't done the math,
but it would be fairly easy to do. The average pot at 1/2 is
probably around $15, maybe slightly less.

Higher limits, somewhat lower rake percentage.

Even though these numbers are much better than found in
real life casinos, the poker engines must still be money
machines. I mean, all it takes is some software development
(of course not trivial, but still), a server, a good Internet
connection, a couple of supporters, and some legal fees. Oh yes,
and a lot of marketing.

The rakes should go down when more sites open up, which
is bound to happen. There must currently be a big over profit.
At least this is what I would assume based on normal market
mechanisms. But it will only happen if players actually start
taking notice of the rakes, so posts like yours are great.
