U.S.A. Consumes 80% of the Worlds Drugs?

Is it true that the United States consumes 80% of the world's illegal drugs?

It's a claim I've heard several times on the George Putnam radio show. He makes it sound like it's common knowledge, but I've never come across that figure in mainstream press.

what they probably mean is that the US has 80% of the monetary demand for drugs.


obviously this is something that the higher ups in the banking industry would know about. (at least large scale statistically)


this makes sense to me but is off the top of my head right now.
