Never played with this group so I am going to assume that I am on par skill wise. I was thinking that 30BB would be more than sufficient.

I was invited to a home game with players I am unfamiliar with, so I too was wondering if there is a "general" rule of thumb??

Depends on how fast you can run. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

If it's a typical home game with no rake and weak opponents, 30 big bets should last you a long time.

I think it depends on how many players there are. I tend to have higher "session variance" short-handed than at a 9 or 10 person table. 30 bb should be enough, but I've been at some very good games that I have dropped more than that in the first couple of hours. I wouldn't want to run into some bad luck at a very good table and not have enough cash to rebuy and get it back (especially if it's a ram 'n jam table with big swings). I would feel safe w/ 50bb.

Good luck.

I'd take 50 I reckon. Don't want to risk going broke in a game where you are most likely the best player.

Take $300. Buy in twice for $150 (A rack and a stack). That's a rack of white and a stack of red.
