I'm in the middle of reading The Theory of Poker (great so far) But I have a ???? Since its a known fact that you only remember 10% of what you read should I read this book 10 times??? For 100% or would I just remember the same 10%??? LOL I know it sounds funny, but I am serious!

Thank you. Also taking suggestions for next book. TY

The second book I'd recommend is Holdem Poker For Advanced Players 21 Century Edition. I had the same problem with that book as you are having with The Theory of Poker. I read the book, then I read it again, and then I would read a chapter or a section of a chapter and practice that one aspect I had just read. Then I would read another chapter and starting practing that concept. I practice on the computer and then concetrate on using what I have learned in real games as well.

More and more is seeking in.

I've read TOP over twenty times, and I get a little bit more out of it each time. It's a great book. I've also read each of the "Advanced Series" books over twenty times. I'd suggest getting the Advanced Series book for your game of choice next, assuming that TOP isn't completely over your head.

If you really only retain 10% of what you read, then the second time you read, you'd retain 10% of the 90% you missed the first time around, or an additional 9% of the total material, meaning that you have now retained 19% of the book. By my calculation ten readings would give you 65% retention. I apparently have retained 88% of it. Practically speaking, Doc AZ, a highly-respected poster in the stud forum whom we haven't heard from in a while, says that anything technical requires three readings before it really works its way into your synapses. But I think you should read it ten times just to be safe. /images/smile.gif

There has been some discussion of this one in the Books/Software forum, but those threads are probably buried by now.

Typical readers have a comprehension rate of around 60%. Speed readers are closer to 85%.

I ran into an attorney at a casino. I'm currently a research physicist, thinking of pursuing a law degree for fun. His #1 advice was to take a speed reading course, which I'm doing now, hence the quoted numbers.
