You didn't get checkraised on the turn, I think that you should bet again on the river. The six on the river didn't change anything, unless your opponent was sticking around with 5. Your opponents will likely call with top pair or two pair, so I think that you are missing a lot by checking here.

I didn't like it at all, I felt dirty checking but I guess I'd been shown a 10 there too often recently and was a bit gun shy.

I would have bet AJ on that river. I'm certainly not checking a set when nobody raises the turn.
