I hope no one minds a cross post, I'm posting this on the News, Views, and Gossip Forum also.

I got some details about Mohegan closing their poker room tonight. It seems that the Tribal Elders (yes, that's really what the head honchos are called) voted 5-4 in favor of closing the room. A lot of people around the casino think that the casino management forced this upon the Tribal Elders though. Apparently they simply told them how much profit the poker room makes as compared to how much slots make without taking into account the extra customers that the poker room brings in.

There is a thought that the Tribal Elders could be convinced to change their minds. The chances may not be great, but there is a chance. As one of the dealers put it tonight, "We're drawing to one out."

If you want to see the room saved, get down to Mohegan Sun and go to the Gaming Commission office (it's next to the poker room). They are collecting names on a petition. Sign it. You have to have your Player’s Club card with you to sign.

Thanks for the info. I play at Foxwoods 99% of the time, but I will stop by the Sun this weekend to sign it, because I think it is better for the players if there are two rooms in the area.

JTG,

I would also suggest that players that are not able to go to the casino e-mail Mohegan Sun about this. You can contact them by going to web page (http://www.mohegansun.com)

Its worth a try. One of the dealers told me that if they close, they will put all the equipment into storage because they may reopen down the road. They did this with their bingo equipment and it's been a few years since they played bingo.

JT,
As much as I love the mohegan 5/10 with a kill at $65, I don't think there is any chance to salvage the room. I was at foxwoods yesterday and the story going around is that there were many problems more severe than the lack of profits, all of them highly illegal. Having said all that, I will gladly stop by and sign the petition.
