Anyone have a rule of thumb for moving up from .50/1 to 1/2? I've been winning consistently for 6 or 7 weeks now. My roll is about $300, started with $50. Thanks.

300 BBs is a good rule of thumb. You can move of sooner if you are either willing to go broke and add more money, or say move up with 200 BBs then move back down if it gets down to 150.

I think 150BB is plenty to move up until you get to 3/6 if you are consistantly beating the lower limit games. Just be ready to move back down if you get below 100BB or so.

I have a much better appreciation of the 300 BB rule now. I had been running good for over 3 months, and then I had a terrible run for 2.5 weeks. Gave back 1/2 my poker bankroll (125 out of 250 BBs). Thankfully that bad run is over, and it only took me 1.5 weeks to win back the 125 BBs. But it really taught me about swings. Sure move up earlier, as long as you are willing to reach into your wallet if you go broke.

At 150 BB I started taking shots at the 1/2 online. Take 25BB and play a good solid session a couple of times and see what happens. In my case I found the 1/2 a little less varaint than the .5/1 and was able to get over the 300BB hurdle in about a week. That didn't mean that I played well, just not as badly as the other players.

Currently on Party I'm short on the bankroll and playing 1/2 again. The number of LAGS has variance so high I'm wondering if my 350BB are even safe.

I start taking shots when I get over 300 BBs at the lower level. If I drop down below 250 BBs or so at the lower limit, I drop down to that limit. Ex: 3-6, play to 1800+, start playing 5-10...if I drop below $1500, go back to 3-6. It's a long, slow grind, especially since I don't play as much as I did two years ago, but I also haven't had to fund my account since early 2001.

Right now, I wanted to take a more protracted shot at 5-10, so I rode 3-6 to about 1950, and then started playing about half 3-6 and half 5-10, and the results have been pretty good so far (have a little under 2300).

Well, for me, I decided to move up right after the hand I described at the bottom of JTG51's "funny post hand comments" post. I just couldn't take it anymore...
