View Full Version : Guitar Scales (beginner help)

I've got this "Jam Along" CD & book for blues only, and the book shows a fretboard diagram with a blues scale for whatever key the song is in.(blues seems like the easiest type of music to start with for beginning guitar)

Okay, I also bought another book(for dummies type, fretboard diagrams) that shows all the scales, and I was wondering if the 'blues scale' is the only scale that sounds right for playing blues(I notice the penatonic scale in almost identical to the blues scale)? Or do you only use all the other scales(dorian, locrian, ...)for other types of music?

-Thanks

im not hardcore on theory. i play what sounds good, and play the best notes. that's not to say i didn't learn anything about the theory behind music theory. seems like the bluest notes are in the blues scales, though.
