I could have raised btf but I didn't want to play a big pot oop when I figured to get called. Maybe I still should have put in that raise...

I've found that getting almost any action on weak overpairs in a limped pot = losing big time.

most of the time you're crushed by two pair, a set, another higher overpair, and behind two suited overs or pair + flush draw.

I call this 100% of the time... The only reason why he'd overbet the pot here is if he does not want a call... he's gonna want a call if he has a hand that beats 99.

you could raise preflop but you gotta make it pretty damn solid. like 5k on top-- something that might induce the fold.
it's not fun, but i think the right play is to call the flop bet. this is much more likely to be a8 or a draw than a better pair.

what do you put opponent on? only A8?

personally I think 22, 87, 88, 77, TT, AKs all push here...

and if they don't they should because any flush cards kill the action from a weaker hand that mistakenly thinks its ahead.
