New Years Eve is such a crappy holiday. I have no problem with having another excuse to get wasted, but I could really do without all the hype and bullsh1t. It is built up to be the greatest party night ever, but it is always dissapointing. You always have to make "plans" for NYE. God forbid you decide that night what you are doing. Everywhere you go is overpriced and crowded. In most of the country the weather sucks. It seems like everyone I have spoken to recently about NYE feels the same way. Anyone in here actually enjoy New Years Eve more than just a normal weekend night?

12-29-2005, 08:52 PM
As much as I party, I barely enjoy NYE as much as a weeknight. Its stupid, because all the amateurs come out to play.

No I don't. I can't stand it, but I always thought I was one of the minority on this one. I don't really dig clubbing anyways, but every NYE the girl HAS to go get drunk somewhere that costs WAAAAY too much. It sucks.

12-29-2005, 08:55 PM
I also view NYE as an excuse for people who are to stupid and uptight to have fun normally, to drink and act like an idiot. America, is the guy at the bar, that uses booze as an excuse to be a complete douchebag, and expects no repercussions, "because the drink made me do it". Bah [censored] humbug.

I like it...its not something I wait for and go crazy over...but people usually try to throw a better than average party...and given that its a holiday, i'm more likely to see friends I haven't in a while...

I'm on [censored] strike

No Christmas, no New Year's - esp. if we get that 5-7 inch snowstorm they're predicting...

I still got a quarter ounce, 4 cases of pop, and three frozen pizzas - I'm golden for new years /images/graemlins/grin.gif

First New Years in Vegas, if this one sucks they all will. Also trying to get hit on by a hooker (hasnt happened yet, guess I don't look like I need one)

Thats the point, I do have an awesome social life. I dont need people like you, who cant handle themselves, like 90% of people out on NYE to ruin my night. As much as I like getting slurred on, and baited to fight, Id rather chill at my place with some close friends and drink.

12-29-2005, 09:25 PM
there are plenty of things you can do and places you can go on nye where you won't get "slurred on, and baited to fight."

I've always hated NYE. The most douchebaggy of my friends always make a huge deal about it and insist that we all commit to something a month in advance (because everything is sold out/booked up if you wait until the last minute). We always end up going to some overpriced, crowded event and we end up having a horrible time.

I'm giving serious thought to staying home on Saturday night. I've been inviting to a couple of house parties, but then I have to worry about driving home because I live outside the city.

I'm agreed
for similar reasons, I drink at bars on Monday-Thursday nights and find better things for weekends
I drink to my own schedule

Agreed. I'm skipping the open bar, and going to a small party instead.

In years past I have had a really good time. As for this year I don't plan on remembering this NYE so...I don't know if it will be enjoyable.

Now that you mention it, 4th of July is kickin.
But yeah, NYE sucks. At least this year there's the NFL on NYD while I'm hungover though.

It's not really my thing and I've never seen it as a big deal but then again I'm not really a big holliday person in general.

I really like NYE, but then again I've also never spent it at a club/bar/etc with the unwashed masses you all seem to be complaining about. It's just an excuse to get together with friends and have a good time, plus a 3-day weekend. How could you _not_ enjoy that?

I enjoyed it immensely in college and just after, when all of my good friends from high school were guaranteed to be in town. It felt like an event most of the time. Now that careers and such have gotten in the way of that, it's not a big deal at all. I still enjoy it for what it is though, which is usually a low key night with a few good friends or family.

Btw, this thread makes me feel good because I thought I was the only party pooper out there who thinks new years is lame. It just seem like its so overhyped I'd rather not do anything special for it anymore.

Yea, I got invited to some bar in New York with open bar and free food, but it's 150 bucks and I'd have to crash somewhere in Long Island at a kid's house that I don't even know.

I think I'll just stay home, New Years is too much hassle.

If the bars are going to suck, then go somewhere else. Biggest NYE I've done was probably a few years ago - maybe 250-300 people in a warehouse I was living in. But I've had a good time with 25-30 at a smallish cocktail party too.

its so hyped because people are [censored] pathetic fat slobs who cant control their own life. Instead of actually making change from within, they get super excited for some date on a calendar so that they can start all over. The night before that day is so exciting because they dont actually have to change or do anything, cuz they will be doing that tomorrow. Sadly it doesnt work, their life spirals more into shitville, and then they bitch about their life, eat lots of cheese, and wait for the calendar to flip over again, so that they can start all over, and this time really do it right.

Alobar just depressed me.

New years is the second worst amateur night of the year, the first being St Patties Day. Ugh.

This will be the 5th year in a row I got to a house party with my usual friends and have a good time. So much better than spending it with some randoms in a crowded bar.

My fav holiday is the 4th of July.

For the first time since I can remember, I am avoiding my close friends and family for the NYE tradition. It's usually a house party including dinner and lots of drinks, video games/karaoke/taboo/cranium and then the final countdown with confetti in front of the TV. Everyone gets kisses, and then people either eat more, sit down to gamble (poker/majhong) or leave. Overall the best party every year with this group of people (due to the large amount of alcohol available).

My girlfriend and I are going to the coast and avoiding all of this...for the first time in my life I want to get away. I hope to watch fireworks on the beach alone with her and sip some champagne throughout the night. Should be a relaxing 3 day weekend and a very calm way to start out the new year. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Gamble,

If the hookup falls through, just whisper "one point four" to the door guy. He'll know what to do.
