Glenn got me a Best of CD/DVD for Christmas. It has all of Live's best videos.

Am I just getting old, or do their videos suck? I mean, god, how many times can you just show one dude, close up, mixed in with a whole bunch of scenes that don't make any sense?

Did they have a bad director? Did they insist on that style of video? Is that a popular theme?

Why is he frequently going topless? What exactly does he have to show us? Is pale, skinny white dude a big hit these days? Was it in the 90's? I must have missed this fad.

And what is with his hair? I agree, it looks best shaved off. He looks very intense, like the music. So why did he let it grow out when he is balding on top, a la Pauly Shore? Leave it shaved, don't subject us to that much cruelty.

Wow, what a disappointment. I should have left well enough alone. How can a band that has such great music put out such horrible videos?

JMHO.

i completely agree, i really like this band's music, but the videos are certainly quite boring. i think most music videos suck though.

I rank "Live" about up there with jazz music....

It's complex, and I know it - and I just can't figure it all out - but that doesn't mean I want to listen to it - -

Only song of theirs I ever liked that I can recall is Lightning Crashes.

That one just rocked...

I do love though that time period - a band like that could never get signed today - they at least deserved that - they were good enough to do that..

Man...I miss Grunge - I never left it really - LOL - either in lifestyle or in music, but it's just not even close to popular these days to keep dressing like that or to try to grow my hair out again, grey and thinning that it has become....LOL

The video for "Turn My Head" is decent, but, like all the others, shows a bit too much of Ed singing.

Granted, the country song at the end isn't on my top ten list, but the rest of the album is unbelievably fantastic, IMO.

It depends on what you like in music though. It's such a subjective thing. I look for a vocalist, usually. He has to sound in pain, he has to sound anguished and hurt. Think Everclear. Lyrics can be very important. In the case of Everclear, they had to be, because Art couldn't sing. In other cases, lyrics aren't as important, as long as the dude seems like he is hurting and raw.

Obviously Live appealed to me in that arena, as well as in the percussionist. He didn't just beat out a rhythm, he really played those drums.

Glenn, OTOH, prefers Mental Jewelry. Go figure.

I think this follows from the fact that I just love the "garage band" sound.. that's my "raw" form that I love. Like NIN's very first one with Trent doing, well, everything. I really like the later stuff from him too, he's just an enigma, but other bands, once they get the funding and everything is polished, that really 'raw-ness' is lost.

Oh, as far as Live goes, I liked them when they were new- but I think i was around 12 at the time.

Now when I hear them (while not often) I love it. I belt out the words, etc. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it reminds me of 6th grade but they wrote some damn catchy songs.

I would have bet money that Daryn was being sarcastic though. I guess my sarcasm meter is expiring. /images/graemlins/frown.gif
