The Truth

After much googling and downloading, I have decided to turn to OOT.
I got a video IPOD for xmas and I want to copy some of the DVDs I own over to it.
It seems they are all copy protected DVDs.
What is the best free dvd ripping software to rip protected DVDs? If not that, what is the best dvd ripping software that costs money. If I have to, I'll pay /images/graemlins/frown.gif
Also, what is required to rip music CDs?
thanks
blake
I use this for audio ripping: audiograbber (http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/)

My favorite DVD ripping app is called DVDShrink. It's awesome. (I'm not really sure it's right for your ipod. I really just wanted to say "I <3 DVDShrink".)

my friends and I are amassing quite a netflix dvd collection and have found some good free software
use DVDShrink to rip the DVDs (if you are not going to be burning onto double-layer discs youll have to turn on compression)
it is available at this site
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
i recommend nero for burning the dvds

This is the correct answer. DVDShrink is the best freeware ripper on the market.

Audio ripping requires EAC on secure mode. Use this guide: http://www.ubernet.org/index.php?p=UberGuide.
DVD ripping is complex. To get stuff onto your iPod, use this guide: http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html#1000, which walks you through using the Videora iPod Converter and DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0, the best ripper there is. DVD Shrink is good for making dual-layer DVDs fit on single-layer DVDs, but I should really let the people at http://www.doom9.org talk instead.

I also use DVD Shrink, but a lot of times you have to use it in combination with DVD Decrypter to bypass the protection. Also, Decrypter can be used to burn the DVD if you don't have Nero

Is shrink even a ripper? I thought that was what Decrypter did.
Anyways, I use DVD Decrypter and then DVD Shrink and then DVD Decrypter again. Fun Stuff.

I've transfered a few dvd's to my psp and used DVD Decrypter (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DVD_Decrypter.htm) for the ripping/cracking and PSP Video 9 (http://www.pspvideo9.com/) for shrinking and transfering.
EASILY the best: www.PQDVD.com (http://www.PQDVD.com) then the ipod converter. "So easy to use, even a caveman can do it"
DJBCP DVD RIP PACK
Do a search for that. It comes with decrypter, shrink, and all the programs you need and the mother program opens up each thing as you need it. I use this and anydvd to get the protection off. Very simple.
you don't need to decode them, you just need pqdvd to put them into a mpeg4 file
