Bankroll without deposits?

I would normally consider this a stupid question not worth posting, but someone in the MTT forum pointed me here in response to a post I made mentioning that I was hoping to build a bankroll through freerolls without making any deposits. They claimed that there are places that will put $5-$20 in my account without any deposit. My question are:
1. Is this true?
2. Where?
3. Why?
4. How do I know this is legit?

There are certain sites that do this as a promotion to beginners. I believe you generally have to make a small deposit before you are able to cash-out (ie if you worked the 20 up to 1000 or something).

I know Royal Vegas Poker (Prima skin) used to do this. I'm not sure if they still do.
