I would have to be restrained from knocking things over in an effort to call this bet.

If villain had pockets better than Jacks he reraises PF. If villain cold-called a raise from early position with 7x then I pay him off but it's hard to logically put him on anything that beats you.

I couldn't have said it better myself. To me that looks like a lower pocket pair, but more likely AK, AQ trying to pick up the pot.

I doubt he made quads on the hero. I doubt villain would throw all his money in the middle on the flop with quads there. More likely villain smooth called with QQ.

Why does everyone assume that villian doesn't have a higher
pocket pair? A lot of players, and I'm not advocating this
strategy, will flat call raises with big pocket pairs. It's incorrect to assume that villian can't have a bigger
pair.

Having said that, without any reads, if we put villian on
a range of hands, smaller pocket pairs through Aces, and
AK, and AQ I would reluctantly call.

I see the flat-call with big pair pretty rarely, and would not worry too much about it. (Though if I'm on the button and think it will get us head's up, I sometimes like smooth-calling, and asking OR to make his dark tunnel bluff.)

Given the limited info, I would have to say the villain probably has a pocket pair and does not have a 7, I'm not convinced we can eliminate QQ-AA given the lack of a pf re-raise, but I'm fairly sure AA is smoothcalling there more often than not, especially with the button yet to act, so I'm content to remove it from his range.

The question now is, how low does his range go (for instance, should we say he has KK-88 or KK-TT?), this is where reads/context comes into play. Truth is though, you have a &gt; 49% equity against KK-99, so it seems like an obvious call to me.
