I'm looking for some new music to listen to. Here are some 'current' bands I like (pretty common):

Radiohead, White Stripes, Strokes, Modest Mouse, Coldplay

I also listen to some reggae (Toots, Marley) and the Dead.

I'm looking for new music, but no tips will be ignored /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bloc Party

Get their album, Silent Alarm, and the remix album is also great.

what kind of modest mouse do you listen to? their older stuff is a bit different than their new stuff. not snobbing or anything, just trying to get an idea of what you like.

I recommend:

wolf parade, a prayer for queen mary: nothing too complicated, just straight up keyboard and guitar driven rock.

the arcade fire, funeral: I don't particularly like this album but many people do. it got a 9.7 on pitchfork media.

the shins, chutes too narrow: pretty solid band, this album has some variety.

death cab for cutie, transatlanticism: they're on the emo side but I can see you liking them.

in general, I recommend that you go here to look for stuff: www.pitchforkmedia.com (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com)

Sigur Ros, and Bjork. and The Mars Volta, if you can handle something a little more aggressive.

The Smiths seem like they're in the same ballpark as those groups you mentioned, although I'm sure you've heard of them already.

I highly recommend the album "Is A Real Boy" by the group Say Anything. It's a bit different than the groups you mentioned, but that album is by far my favorite.

if you like white stripes and strokes you should take a trip to the sixties/seventies and listen to the following bands:

cream (wit eric claptoon), the kinks, jethro tull, neil young, velvet underground, the who, the doors, kenny rogers & the first edition....

and some (pretty) new stuff:

franz ferdinand, captain murphy, caesars, bring me the [censored] riot man, interpol, kings of leon, mando diao

check these band out on www.allmusic.com (http://www.allmusic.com) and you will discover new music...

Yes. Get Kicking Television.

Although it's a questionable place to start since Summerteeth and A Ghost is Born may seem like lesser albums if you listen to them after KT.

Check out Stereophonics; just started listening to them. Not the best band ever but they have a few good songs.
