Early in a PL holdem MTT on fulltilt
Seat 2: Villain A(1,440)
Seat 4: Villain B (1,440)
Seat 5: HERO (1,500)

Hero posts the big blind of 30

Dealt to Hero [3 /images/graemlins/club.gif 4 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif]

3 limpers including villain A, Villain B calls from SB, Hero checks.

flop [A /images/graemlins/heart.gif 7 /images/graemlins/club.gif 5 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif] 150

Villain B checks hero checks checks to villain A who bets 120. Villain B calls 120. Hero Calls 120 folds around

Getting a great price on my double bellybuster, so i figured ill take off a card. If villain B didnt make the call there i was planning on raising Villain A's bet and pushing the turn.

Turn [5 /images/graemlins/spade.gif] 510
Villain B bets 150 hero calls 150 Villain A folds

only made this call because i wasnt to worried about Villain A

River [5 /images/graemlins/club.gif] 810

Villain B checks hero bets 250 Villain B calls 250

This was just a total donk play. obviously just should have given it up.

any comments on the hand? what do i need to do better? these spots in tourneys definitly hurt me.

Results in White below:
EvenKeal56 shows [3c 4d] (three of a kind, Fives)
joe jack shows [8d Ad] (a full house, Fives full of Aces)

You don't play the hand past the flop.

You're not getting the right price, especially because 4 of your "outs" gives you the idiot end of the str8, and might easily cost you your stack. You need more - substantially more - than 5:1 to make the flop call - you're getting 3.25:1.

The rest of the hand is atrocious. You still don't have the odds on the turn, and on the river you're not folding Ax for a bet of t250 into the t810 pot.

Fold - on the flop.

Best,

What McMelchior said. It's not that great a price to make what could be the second-best hand.

Yea...mchelchior hit it spot on, oop, cant control the pot, and not getting the right price at any point in the hand

Fold on the flop. You're chasing a 4-outer without the proper odds and even if it hits you're not sure to have the best hand by the river.

The flop call is fine. You have a pretty well disguised hand and good implied odds. Just because you could hit the idiot end of the straight doesn't mean its no good.

The river bet is just not all that good. People won't fold here often-- if ever.

River sucks I think you get called by any pair.

Why are we being afraid of just having the lower straight... Wow. The flop call is definately fine here. If we fold the flop because we don't feel safe playing a straight that is not the nuts well, what can I say, go team up with TJ Cloutier and be weak tight.

Hero CR to 600 on the flop. Most likely Villian A holds a weak A or mid-pair and will have to lay it down, unlikely Villian B intends to come as he had his chance to raise and didn't. Unnamed villians could have been looking for a CR as well but is unlikely. The board doesn't look draw heavy so your CR will feel like a flopped 2 pair or a set. You're in a very good position to add 25% to your stack w/o a showdown - take it.

flop call is just fine, turn call is a bit sketchy, river bet is horrible.

you can just disregard the river bet, that was totally pointless, i was just chip spewing.

No, don't disregard the river bet, learn from it. I've learned from bets like this as I've made them plenty of times. I get into that mode sometimes where the only reason I bet is because I can't win any other way. Well, that may be true, but it doesn't mean that you're going to win enough times to make the bet profitable. You don't have to win every pot, a very important lesson.
