Villain is 31/9/2.00 from 40 hands in a previous session, and has been known to raise A9o. He called down with top pair a few hands ago.

River: (7.50 BB) 9/images/graemlins/heart.gif (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 9.50 BB

Something about this hand doesn't ring right, but I can't put my finger on what. I'm tempted to say that the turn was a fold in a small pot where I'm possibly drawing dead and the pot's just 6BB. The river was pretty weak of me as well, and I really shouldn't be fearing a flush/straight. Bet out on the river or go for a c/r?

Edit: forgot to add, villain bought in for 10BB which takes my perception of him down a couple notches.

I'd fold the turn the way you played it.

:grunch:

pre-flop - looks like the villian isn't the only one raising A9o /images/graemlins/wink.gif (yes, I know you were isolating the button, which is fine - I only mention it because you did)

flop - standard continuation bet. Villian obviously is not scared off...

turn - this just feels like a scare card raise for some reason. My gut feeling is that villian has a higher pair at this point.

river - you're right; the river was weak. Either you believe that he's got the flush/straight, and you check/fold, or you believe he's only got a high pair that you now beat, and you check/raise.

fold the turn in a small pot, even if he doesn't have the flush or straight, you still have crappy odds for your 5 outer.

Check/raise the river. Your hand range for him is much too tight imo. Three nines is the boss hand here.
