Ok so my sister got her laptop computer stolen yesterday. She had msn messenger on it programmed to sign in automatically when the computer turns on. Now today I see her signed in to her messenger, but I called and she said she didnt have it back.

Is there any way to get the ip number so I can see who it is, or where they are?

Or should I just call the cops and let them know?

Thanks.

here's what i'd do. find out what time it was logged in at, send that to msn and ask for the ip address. then run a traceroute to that ip and see if you can find out what isp they are connecting from. then call that isp and ask what account was using that ip at that given time. unfortunately isp's probably don't give out that info... doh

What you do is talk to the person on MSN, explain the laptop has valuble data on it that you'd like back and would be happy to buy it back from them.

Arrange to meet them to buy it back and then take a baseball bat with you when you do.
