View Full Version : 2006 SNG Goals

I've seen these threads pop up on several other forums, but this is forum most relevant to my goals.

So post your 2006 goals, and maybe we can periodically do updates to monitor our progress:

My goals:

Move from $11 --> $33
Improve post-flop game
New monitor for 4-tabling
2007 Party Cruise and/or 2007 Atlantis (qualify in 2006 - and obviously the "dream" goal)

1819 Off-Topic Posts wasn't even a good warm-up...I'm going for 3000 in 2006 /images/graemlins/confused.gifAnd I'm going to use more emoticons /images/graemlins/smirk.gif /images/graemlins/spade.gif /images/graemlins/mad.gif

And I wanna met more 2+2'er's....Maybe Yugo is the exception /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Reach the $215s, profit batch, and maybe even get the BR together for a go at the mini steps towards the end of the year if all goes well

12-22-2005, 01:17 PM
Move from the 11s to the 55's
improve the pushbot
new monitors as well
and up my cash game from nl 100 to nl 400

I want to find that gay sailor and kick his ass. No seriously

In order.

1.Rebuild my bankroll (again!)

2.successfully 4 table $22's ( i'm a great 2 tabler but I suck at 4 or more)

3.Cash out everything over 50 buy ins at $22 and stay there for a nice long while and improve my play rather than move up. This I believe is why I so often have to rebuild my bankroll.

4. Work on removing tilt as a major factor in most downswings.

Straight Flushes,

SAM

PS I know this post is going to be all happy go lucky I hope I make another 200k from the $215's, but I'm hoping some of you will man up and let us know what weaknesses you plan to improve in 2006

Hmmm

Keep lobbying stars to add a $70 6-handed seeing as how I can't move up in this structure from the $35s. Failing that, maybe readjust my game and go to the 9-handed $55s. Maintain or improve slightly my current ROI and ITM% at the $35s, which I feel are fairly close to as good as I can do at this limit.

Become a better player.

My 06 goals:

- play 100-200% more than I do currently (~12,000 SNGs next year)
- add more $200+ MTTs into the mix
- 8-table 215s (or find what is most profitable & comfortable for me in the 8-10 tabling 55-215 range)
- pwn WSOP STTs for a few weeks in Vegas and maybe play a few events
- add 5/10 NL as one of my primary games
- coach 2 of my friends to be able to beat the 11s, and see them move up as far as they can
- put a down payment on a condo with poker earnings

12-22-2005, 01:36 PM
By the end of next year:

Buy second monitor for 8 tabling.
Start 8 tabling.
Move from 22s to 33s+ consistently.
Learn how to play HU for real.
Make more thoughtful contributions to the strategy discussions on this forum.
Get out to vegas.

Have a good fall semester of law school... ehhhh?

12-22-2005, 01:39 PM
1. Improve my postflop play. I suck at postflop.

2. Improve my heads up play. I suck at heads up.

3. Move from the 22's to at least the 55's.

4. Average at least 100 SNGs a week.

4. $20,000 profit.

Continue 8 tabling the $33's but by end of year be mainly $55's. Still play my 1-2 multi tables a week and at least 100 SNG a week. I went out and bought 5 subject notebook, want to keep records of every session I play even if it is just ten minutes at 5-10.

My 06 goals:

- move up to $50+5 by the end of July, and venture into $100+9 by the end of year
- play 500+ SNGs a month
- add more MTTs into the mix
- 8-table (or find what is most profitable & comfortable for me in the 4-8 tabling 33-55 range)
- venture into other games, such as PLO and Stud
- re-read TOP and HoH books
- make enough money to keep other half happy /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif

To have a profit graph like Skipper's first 100, and slay the abonimable snowman so it keeps that way for the next 10,000.

Aside from that, moving up from the $55s to the $109s, then getting a new monitor and trying to 8-table starting back at the $22s. Also I wanna start learning how to play MTTs and ring games well.

1) move up to the 215's
2) Win one MTT a month
3) $50K profit

Pretty good chance I'm moving out to Southern California in June to go pro, so none of these will be a problem at all.

Okay, okay.....lay a guilt trip on us. Now I'm forced to be honest. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

I also plan to rebuild my bankroll. I did some stupid things with it in 2005 and now I'm back down to the $6.50s. That's okay, though, because I have leaks and I really should go into "start over" mode. This is why I'm not bummed.

The leaks: Booze. I get home, have a few beers while doing chores around the house, have a few more before, during, and after dinner, and by the time I fire up the laptop to play a few sets, I'm good and buzzed. Must stop that.

Taking shots: I have to get a grip on this "take a shot" mentality. Many things have killed my bankroll, but one in particular has been from taking shots at 55s and 109s when I have absolutely no business even being there, yet. Fixing the leak above may help this one, now that I think about it.

Concentration: What was I saying again? Oh yeah, concentration. I play so mechanically that I don't pay attention until it gets close to the bubble. I always wish I had a better read on opponents and always kick myself for not paying attention earlier on. I will change that in 2006.

Study: In 2006, I vow to actually study. I'm one of the guys here who embarrassingly hasn't learned ICM. I will get all the software and use it. Pokertracker is the exception. I've had that for a couple years now, but don't use it to its fullest potential. This resolution would include actively looking at my HHs and replaying games to find stupid mistakes.

Lastly, by this time next year, I hope to be playing 55s and up. I've spun my wheels at this game for way way way too long. Three years of daily play and I'm at the $6.50s. 2006 absolutely has to be the year I break out of the rut and get some discipline.

Just on a sidenote, back in February I was playing $0.50/1 limit holdem with a $200 bankroll. Then in May I set pretty high expectations (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=micro&Number=2442326&PHPS ESSID=&fpart=3#Post2442326) for myself and met my profit goal with ease. Just to show you, there is hope after all!

* Read more (I have TOP in the mail from Amazon now, reread HOH2)
* Post to 2+2 when I am confused, only after exhausting my own knowledge
* Respond to 2+2 with usable/meaningful contributions
* Read Gigabet's "Almost there with Success and Failure" quarterly at least
* Better understand the math
* Thoroughly conceptualize ICM
* Get to Step 3 on the MLG Evolving scale (achieving Step 4 and Step 5 take time, a year is honestly not enough time)
* Master AK
* Play my first $55 on my birthday (12/01)

4-6-8 table the 55's maybe move into the 109's by next year well see.

Discipline myself to play with out t.v and surfing the internet. Also Aim seems to slow me down a ton.

Improve HU games and my Bubble play more.

Listen to myself and my gut instinct more. A good % of the time its right and I kick myself when I dont.

Would like to have enough $ to go to STTF-HUC X .

Improve postflop play and get better at some NL 50.

Keep 100X Buy in so I dont have to rebuild my BR again.

1. Play 5000 SNGs, profitably, at disciplined limits that are within my bankroll.

2. Listen to the little voice inside my head while I'm playing.

3. Post 365 hands.

4. Stop being so results-oriented.

2. Stay very disciplined with money (don't blow off everything I make).

3. Move up to the 55's.

I just started playing this past fall, so I am a noob. I have lurked like crazy on 2+2. I've read a ton, and am building the bankroll.

So...

1) Continue learning. read through the hands posted on here, and get the nerve to post my own hands. Keep learning.

2) Focus on gaining experience and building a bank roll. Avoid temptation to move up quickly.

3) Be more disciplined when playing. Focus on the table, even when I'm out of the hand (I tend to drift once I fold). Watch how the rest of the table is playing.

4) PLay in a few of the big entry, large field events (through satellite quailfying). Maybe good finish the PS 180SNG.

5) Invest in some tools like SNGPT. Study.

6) PLay solid poker.

I'd like to have purchased my 2 flat screens and be 10 tabling whatever SNG level/site I feel like.

My real goal is: donk my way into a final table in the 500k gaurunteed on Stars. Gotta use all those FPP's I rack up from 8-tabling to good use.

learning to handle bad (the really ugly-bad) varience a little better. i think my progress on that has been working well and it is the biggest overall goal of mine.

Moving up is another, but i'm going to need a job/other income stream before that happens.

12-22-2005, 06:04 PM
2005 was a good year, started at the 5 +1s on party, and worked my way up to the 60 turbos on stars. Unfortunately, the 60s have been up and down, and my overall profit on that level has been slight. So, I moved back to the 27 turbos.

For 2006:

1. Pwn the 60s and move up at least to the 200s with good, fairly consistent profitability.

2. This of course means I have to figure out what was holding me back at the 60s, which I will do.

Steam Donkey

12-22-2005, 06:05 PM
My goals:

1. Be content at winning a nice chunk of extra cash from 8 tabling the 22's
2. Take 1 day a week away from multitabling to try and learn at higher buyin sngs and try to learn how to improve my cash game play
3. Be honest with myself and improvements needed in my game. AKA not losing my entire bankroll
4. Win the 2006 WSOP main event and maybe a WPT title or three

12-22-2005, 06:06 PM
My goal is simple -- to qualify for and play in large LIVE NL Holdem' tourneys (doing well in the event is second goal.)

As a Goal, I would like to eliminate mistakes. I feel like my biggest mistakes are not folding when I have a good starting hand and see a flop I really don't like. I have a tough time admitting that I'm beat or that I cannot bluff the opponent out at that point.

To do this, I would like to create an error log. I'm going to make a little java proggie that allows me to make notes on each game right after I play them and analyze my results accordingly.

I think this will help my game 2-fold.
1) I think that I will be able to see what mistakes I make most often and try to eliminate them when I see them transpiring.
2) Also, as I'm playing, I know that I will be writing notes on my play afterwards and won't want to write that I made a mistake, so I will go less with my "gut" and more with the smart "+EV" play.

Make tons of money.
Move from 6-tabling the $22s to 8-tabling the $55s eventually.
Get a 2nd 2001FP (I don't care about Party Beta).
Only play poker during the summer (maybe work ~10hrs/week at my 'real' job).
Buy a cheap car ($6000 or so).
Get better at poker.

I'm at a point of inflection. If I keep my salary job I hope/expect to be in the $215s soon and my goal would be to succeed at them. If I don't, my bankroll policy will have to be much more conservative and my goal I guess would be about the same, but a little delayed. I might also try to make some money in the poker realm outside of playing if that happens, at least until I win the ME at the WSOP.For those of you thinking about warning me about how hard going pro is (the other thread), I would still have some other non-salary income and believe me I have plans B, C and D.

My Goals for 2006...

Play online for less than 30 hours a week. This staring at a monitor thing is lame.

Play live more often.
I get a decent return at local charity tournies. Will play an average of 2 a week. Man they play strangely at these games. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Make four major trips to casinos.
Vegas twice, AC, Tunica for the long trips. Then a few to Indiana, Niagara and other local casinos.

Pay down the mortgage on some land I just bought with poker winnings. This poker money is just too good to be true, I need to turn it into something concrete before the party is over. It will be nice to say " I bought this with poker money"

I am going to shoot for $10,000 profit in 2006. I will not however let it take over my life. If my other job or my social life or my recreational life begins to suffer then I will not hesitate to rethink my goal.

I will respect the SNG's they have been my bread and butter. I will move back to party and play the 800 chippers and build a bankroll.

I will also not pass on great opportunities at the Limit games. PAHUD and game selection allows you to detect some real positive earning opportunities. When a table lights up with 40% in the flop and I can get one or two down on the waiting list I am in there even if the limit is a bit high for my BR. The flipside is that when the maniac fish leaves the table I will leave also.

Good luck to all of you on the forum.

Thanks for everything.

Might be nice to meet some of you guys but I do not drink or go to strip clubs so... all we would have is poker.

Maybe I should rethink my goals...
LEARN TO DRINK
MORE LAP DANCES

Maybe I can get a 2+2er to coach me on the new goals.

I didn't read all the replies. No one is going to read mine - and that's fine. It's more here to keep ME honest and to look up in a year and see how i'm doing.

1) Go from current 4-table $11 SNGs to 4-table at least $22s.
2) Win and MTT with more than 30 people in it. Even if it's a $10 R&A.
3) Purchase PT and start using it (please don't kick me. At least not HARD ...)
4) Play a LIVE MTT or two.
5) Try to get into some of the bigger MTT's via qualifiers.
6) Read, post, think, learn, improve

Re-read - ToP, HoH I and II, SSH, TPFAP. Get some more books.

Rebuild my roll and add a monitor. Be 12 tabling 100s and 6max 55s within 10 months.

Become a feared 109 player and move up to the 215s. By feared, I mean I want other players to see me at the table and not want to sit down because of it. I also want to win everytime I get my money in ahead. That's all.

This year I made about 10K from poker and whoring.

Next year I want to earn 10 K from the tables. I will start playing successfully the 55s within 4 months.

I will make less boners per tourneys.

Haven't posted on 2+2 in a while (and hardly ever in this forum). Where I am now: I 2-table $109s. I make about $15/game so a bit better than $30/hour. Oh, and I'm a student (returning, I'm 32) and poker is currently my only income. Goals:

1. Play 15-20 hours/week (30-40 SnGs) while school is in session, and 30-40 when it is not.

2. Make 40-50K, enough to pay the rent, tuition, expenses, and hopefully buy another monitor, as well as build my bankroll up to the point where I can:

3. Step back up to the $215s. I used to play those, but I got careless and a bit lazy when I quit my job to go back to school. Pretty much I was only playing ~10 hours/week and that just isn't going to get it done.

4. If I can get another monitor, see if I can 3-4 table when I can actually have 4 tables on screen at once. I can't even completely fit 2 on this little thing.

-play more MTT's and polish that game up
-be in vegas from start to finish of WSOP and play within my bankroll for the entire time i am there
-play at the SNG level where i will be most profitable and be the happiest, not the level at which my ego wants to be playing at
-always be improving
-convince unarmed to take me on as a 'macking' student

12-23-2005, 09:31 AM
• Move up to the $55's as soon as 2006 starts (I doubt I'll fail this).
• Move up to the $109's somewhere around summer.
• Buy a 50" HDTV + PS3 from poker profits.
• Stop taking loans and start paying my education with poker only.
• Play at least 2x9 SNGs every day at least 25 days each month.
• Get confortable playing 9 sngs continously.

That is all, thank you.

12-23-2005, 10:38 AM
-Slowly move from $22s to $55s.
-Do more multitabling and get better at it.
-Play more MTT tournaments.
-Win MTT with more than 45 players.
-Play more satellites to big Sunday tournament.
-Play my first double-shootout to WSOP.
-Average $250/month without playing more than 10 hours per week.
-Continue to improve through reading, using this forum and playing.

It looks like everyone on here is going to try to move to the $55's, so I guess I'll have to leave the $55's and get back to the $215's.

Main goal.... don't do anything stupid like quitting poker for almost a year like I did last year.

I've been back to playing the $55's every night for the last 2 months and can't figure out why I left in the first place. I will definately be back to the 215's by the end of the year.

2nd goal is to play many more MTT's. They are my favorite, but need to make the time to play them.

This pretty much sums up my situation and goals.
Good luck to all in 2006.

I think I have yet to play you headsup actually. It's interesting that even though me and 2+2er will clearly be the best at the table, we rarely, if ever, end up playing at the end.

As for respect. Why settle when you can be feared. We all want to be feared.

Goals for 2006:

1) Make a permanent move to the 200s. I have the bankroll. I have good results with a smallish sample size (250 SNGs). I just need to get comfortable there like I am in the 100s.

2) Play more hours. I figured out my "hours worked in 2005" the other day, and it only came to 770 hrs (that's online-- I played a lot of cash NL in 2005 while living in Vegas also, but didn't average more than 15 hrs./wk live)... It's nice that I've had a lot of free time, but I really should average 20 hrs./wk or more.

3) Start working on MTTs.

4) Start making my cash work for me--- investments and such... it's silly for me to just have it sitting online in poker accounts and Neteller and savings accounts.

5) Become fluent in Spanish. I'm living in Buenos Aires, taking 10 hrs./wk of private lessons... hopefully I'll be able to chat-up the beautiful ladies at some point.

6) Figure out where I want to live next.

12-24-2005, 03:54 AM
You should think twice about that Thailand trip. I made one 2003 january... have done few after that and currently have been here since last October. Next week am going to buy a car. Well .. then again .. everything is cheap.. great place for diving... what can I ask more /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Booked a win of over 1k today at the 22's. Could not lose a coin flip and got some key cards HU. Nice day right before Xmas. Too bad days like this will not happen to often. And I cannot wait to win the TLB in January. I might be the most feared player on the 22's ever.

12-24-2005, 08:32 AM
Well, I started playing poker mid-2005. Made some fairly good money playing NL25 on Party. End of 2005 I moved to PokerStars and have started playing SNG's, but I've not really been keeping track of any of my progress.

For the beginning of Jan2006, I will have $100 on PokerStars to start playing the $5's, I want to begin to multi-table, and then slowly progress upto the $55's. I have the tools, PAHUD, SNGPT, PT etc... so I'm going to give it a good crack and I firmly believe I can earn a nice extra wage through this.

I will also put $100 back into Party Poker and play the NL25's, again lookin to build a bankroll to move up levels. I also want to try and enter a few MTT's and hope to get a final table or two, that'd be real nice.

Anyway, from the beginning of 2006 I'm going right back to the bottom and going to get my way up successfully. I hope.
