Yeah I get this all the time. It seems often the cashiers stop listening as soon as they can and start going through their mental checklist of things they're supposed to do -- do you want to supersize it, do you want extra cheese, for here or to go, would you like to try our new X, whatever.

They just completely shut down so they can start up their scripts. And they're not bright enough to handle varying from the scripts at all. They aren't listening for anything but the answer to their question and probably don't really give a damn what you're saying. They're on auto-pilot the whole shift.

I have had some of the stupidest encounters with staff imaginable at fast food joints, over the simplest thing, and they aren't infrequent. I'm like the poster boy for politeness, but still it sometimes really grates on my nerves. Talking to someone who's not listening is one of the stupidest experiences on earth.

they work at McDonalds. I think it's impressive that they are motivated enough to be on auto-pilot and not in shut down mode.

Try ordering a double cheeseburger with 6 patties when you are high as [censored]. Very very difficult. I tried to tell the d00d working (his name is Greg) that this sandwich is officially called the Triple Double. He didn't remember.

I'm glad I don't work at McDonalds

the worst dining experience ive ever had was at a Wendy's near campus. Getting the food was fine but when we sat down to eat, we couldn't help overhear a convo a group of employees on break were having. A guy in a Wendy's shirt and Wendy's jacket was talking loudly about a rash that he had on his back and everytime he scratched it, yellow and green goo would come out, and he talked about how it spread all over. the worst part was that he actually took off his shirt to show his white trash colleagues (sp?), and i almost threw up. Then the guy talked about how he was aspiring to become a theological anthropologist. WTF !! seriously, i wanted to kill him or tell him i hope his rash was terminally ill cancer

First, you need to relax and simply realize that they work at McD's and you don't. That right there should be enough to make you happy.

Second, you need to [censored] relax.

no, the McDonald's was up near Chicago, but the McDonalds at the union is terrible. A buddy of mines brother was a manager there and said they have rats and stuff in the back that they continually have to get rid of. the Wendy's was on Neil St. I never noticed how white trash Champaign really is around there.

I quickly determine if the employees at a certain branch are total morons or not, if they get my order right or not, etc. Most of the ones around my house are horrible places and I sometimes drive 10 mins (city) to go to a better one.

this isn't the McDonald's at the six-pack is it? On gregory drive. I lived in Westin dorm freshman year, the Mcdonalds (which I think closed down) was the slowest [censored] Mcdonald's in the world.

You'd be the only one in there and it would still take 10 minutes to get one plain hamburger.

You must've gone to the one in union next to the bowling alley, that one sux donkey balls too.

Places like McDonalds are a great way for us to keep the slower people in society somewhat productive and contributing to the economy without messing up anything important.

Be happy that these people work at McDonalds and not in an air traffic control tower somewhere. That right there should be enough to make you happy.

there are some parts that are, driving up towards the highway is, near Savoy yeah not white trash at all, but we all know the terrible part of Champaign, to the way north of campus. The McDonalds near the six-pack hasn't been there for 4 years. The McDonald's workers in the Union are not students except for very few, they are all older people.

I moved out of the sixpack after fresh yr, that would be 2001...therefore I guess it makes sense it closed right after I left that area of campus.

savoy has some pretty nice houses out there towards the airport, many of the professors who are not locals reside outside of champaign proper

I don't know much about Champaign at all, really.. I've been there for an ultimate frisbee tourney and a football game. But when I was there it seemed pretty white trash to me. I guess i saw the bad parts. I distinctly remember the wind shifting between the two days of the tourney which made it smell of pig farm all day. I will admit that partying that night was a REAL good time though.

Oh, and as a side note.. what is the name of those two really really tall dorms? Something like Ilini towers?
