So, I just got an Xbox (traded it for my dusty PS2 that I no longer used). Now, I need some games to get addicted to /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I like sports games, so Madden and Tiger Woods are no brainers.

I would also like to pick up a strategy game, kind of like a Legend of Zelda game, if such a game exists. It should have a degree of action to it though - like Bounty Hunter for PS2. I liked that game a lot, even though it's really more of a shooter. Maybe something like Metroid?

Somebody gave me Fable, and it seems ok so far (only played for about 30 minutes).

What I don't like: 1st person shooters (even though I liked Bounty Hunter) or car racing games.

tyia.

Halo - even if you dont like FPSs, you'll probably like this game. If not, your friends will, and youll have more than enough fun playing multiplayer to justify the $20 purchase

Ive owned an x box for 3 years and have never needed another game other than Halo or Halo 2. Get it and youll be fine.

Street Figter Collection - just for the online 3rd Strike competition.

X-Men Legends wasn't bad for an RPG type game.

An absolute must have IMO, is Ninja Gaiden. Amazing game.

For adventure, there isnt too much on Xbox. You could probably get "Beyond Good and Evil" for 5 bucks. I was skeptical, and its pretty corny, but fun.

Just a warning. This game is extremely plot heavy. About 90% of the time playing will be spent listening to storyline and watching cutscenes and stuff. It's good if you're a big Star Wars fan and treat it like a "choose your own adventure". I personally got bored about 20% of the way into the game.

Also if your going to play it. Read some FAQS/guides on character development to make your life easier. At the start you need to build your character, with about a million choices and that's going to effect the rest of your game. Reading up on how to build a strong character is a good idea.

Starwars Battlefront II is much more action packed. It's an action/strategy style game, similar to Halo 2 except it's 3rd person and it has some "auto-aim" functionality so the analog controls aren't as hard to use.

As far as RPG/adventure games go, there really isn't any classics for XBOX. I found Fable pretty fun, but it's a pretty short game. The intro->middle of the game is very well done and there are some challenging fight scenes in it but the ending seems like it was rushed to get out. The storyline kind of falls apart and the game actually gets easier to beat towards the end.

yeah, I just saw that the combat scenes are 'turn based' - ie you don't really do any fighting. not what am I looking for.

OP,

I just picked up an Xbox the other day so I'm in the same boat as you.

I suggest you get it modded and you can throw in some emulators in there. Can't go wrong playing Zelda 64 on your Xbox.

good suggestion...but my limited research showed that you couldn't play xbox live on a modded xbox - true or not?

Games I very much enjoyed:

- Morrowind: played it on PC, not Xbox, but is probably my favorite game of all time. Very deep, very engaging.
- Beyond Good & Evil: kinda obscure platformer from a couple years ago, a little bit of "wtf is going on" when I started playing it but very fun once I figured it out
- Prince of Persia: All three games are very good. The first one (The Sands of Time) was the most engaging in terms of plot and me not being able to put down the controller (like a good book where you have to see what happens on the next page), whereas the third one was probably the best in terms of gameplay.
- Halo 2: Single player sucks (I only played it cause of the story), and I generally like FPS games, but multiplayer is a blast.
- The Suffering: The first one was very cool, haven't played the second one. Third person action/shooter, takes place on a haunted island, and it seriously freaks you out.
- NBA 2K6: because NBA Live is garbage.

It depends, if you shell out the extra cash, some mod chips come with an on/off switch so you can turn it off when you want to play Live.

Halo 2 is the best game on the system. XBL is a must for this game.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory if you are into the spy action games.

Ninja Gaiden (Black, the rerelease to make some extra bucks) if you like to button smash

Forza Motorsport for driving.

Fifa 06 or Winning Eleven 8 are both amazing if you like soccer games.

World Championship Poker 2...Just kidding /images/graemlins/smile.gif

So why didn't you buy a Game Cube? I think the GC is better than Xbox the games department, BUT I like the XBox better since mine is modded.

My chip has this feature, but I don't play on Live I prefer the PS2 controller to play Madden and NCAA online.

Forgot about those!! Is WE8 out on Xbox in the US, or is it just PES5 in the UK still? Winning Eleven is one of the greatest sports games I've ever played. Haven't played Fifa since '04, when I was pretty unimpressed by it.

meh. For something that was hyped as "the greatest RPG of all time", it definately didn't deliver.

astro,

if you are going to get Pirates, get it for the PC.

my gf has it for pc and xbox and plays the xbox version. it's apparently updated, and i can see the appeal to playing that sort of a game on a console rather than a pc.
