View Full Version : Preliminary Trip Report: Adam Smith's "Theory..."

12-18-2005, 12:13 PM
So the semester is over, and I'm about to spend the next few days, in between the morning hangovers and the subsequent resumption of nightly binge drinking, reading Adam Smith's Theory of Moral Sentiments.

From what I've heard and read, it is a fairly respectable and in depth analysis of human empathy, sympathy, feelings, sentiments, etc, that compose our ethics and morals. Written years before he came out with Wealth of Nations, it was overshadowed by other more prominent philosophers at the time like David Hume and Jeremy Bentham.

Either way, I'm looking forward to this read and if anyone has any comments or questions then feel free to post them. I will post a quick opinion or two of what I felt after completing this 500 page behemoth.
