Looking for headphones. Did a search for the past year, found that people seem to really dislike the Bose QC2 headphones, yet some people seem to like them. Can an audiophile give me a pro/con list of these that's very opinion based? Factual information is good too.

Basically, I wear headphones at work (I'm a programmer) and I listen 8 hours a day on average. I don't have a TON of ambient noise, but I'd like to get rid of the conversations and other background noise. I don't care so much about size, although I don't want to look like a DJ. I don't want the in-ear style. I want noise cancelling.

Is Sennheiser the only way to go? They seem pretty ugly (yeah, yeah) and I can't understand half the crap on their website because it's in German.

I like these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005S8KM/qid=1134883048/sr=8-9/ref=pd_bbs_9/104-4744562-4235112?n=507846&s=electronics&v=glance) a lot.

Sennheiser doesn't make closed headphones that I know about. Head-Fi, found at www.head-fi.org (http://www.head-fi.org), is probably the best source for headphone, headphone amp, and portable audio information on the internet. A good choice at the $200 mark for a closed headphone would be the Audio-Technica A900s, although they are very large (think CD-sized). I'd give you more suggestions, but I don't have much knowledge as far as closed or noise-cancelling headphones go.

These are two limitations you can't have. It's one or the other my man.

You'll have to sacrifice one or the other.

Did you just say the same exact thing in three consecutive sentences?

I love my QC2's. My friend's broke - the plastic part of the head band cracked and basically disintigrated. 2 other friend's have had theirs for 2 years just like me and love them.

I would reccomend the QC2's.

I'm buying myself the Grado SR60's (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006DPMU4/104-6157779-9765517?%5Fencoding=UTF8&n=507846&s=electronics&v= glance) for Christmas.

Apparently, they're entry-level "cans", but very very good for the price ($69).

Maulik was right on with suggesting the HD280. I wear headphones all day at work, too, so I picked the 280s up. I love them; great sound, comfortable, sealed, everything you could want.

I don't get why you're worried about looking like a DJ though.

I've been pretty happy with my Sony MDR7506s. $100.

I haven't compared them to other sets around the same price range, but I'm satisfied after upgrading from cheapo headphones.

I do corporate video. We use these (http://www.proaudiokit.co.uk/Sennheiser/Sennheiser_HD280_Pro.html) . A little boomy for monitering purposes but great for music.

Not NC but they're like strapping a speaker to your head. If you got a fat head they are a little tight.

I have the shure E5c. They are amazing. Their big selling point is that Dave Matthews Band uses the same technology as the earphones do in their speakers at concerts. Regardless of how impressive that may or may not be, the headphones provide the clearest sound possible (particularly great for listening to jazz) and you wouldn't be able to hear somebody screaming fire in the cubicle next to you if you were wearing them.

P.S. If you don't feel like shelling this much $$$, I've tried the E3c before and they're also sweet.
