How to drink Johnny Walker Blue

Just bought a bottle, and I know nothing (I mean NOTHING) about whiskey/scotch etc.
How should I drink it? One Ice cube, splash of water, straight?

I remember a thread a while ago where a bunch of you knew a thing or ten about this topic, so I'm counting on you.

I don't like scotch, but when I'm drinking bourbon I'll put about 1 ice cube/ounce in. Making it colder smoothes it out some, as well as the obvious dilution. Doing the same thing with scotch seems pretty standard to me. FWIW, my dad is a huge scotch fan given his income (he can't buy a $100 bottle of scotch every month, but he can certainly appreciate it when he gets the chance) and he drinks it with ice.

try drinking a good single malt or a good bourbon with a splash (just a splash) of water. the small amount of water isn't to dilute the hooch, but to open it up. You'll get a full, multi-layered drink this way.

I have been putting 2 oz. over 3 large ice cubes and that seems to be doing the trick. I seem to like it better after it sits for about 5 minutes and dilutes a bit, probably becuase I'm not used to drinking scotch.

Overall I like it, it is very very smooth and has a kind of smoky aftertaste. But honestly, I've drank johnny black on the rocks a few times before and I don't know if a bottle of blue label is worth the $100 difference.

Alright, im a little drunk, so leniancy is in order. Tomorrow I leave for home at 7 in the morning, so I'm staying at my uncle's house near the Long Beach airport. He was invited to a christmas party across the street, unfortunately, he is really sick and could not make it. He sent me in his stead with my grandmother, whom I was supposed to introduce to the neighboors because my grandmorther is an 80 year old romanian nutcase and doesn't like leaving the house. I ask if they'll have beer, he says they wiull, im in. I take her over there, she's bitching in a foreign language about how she hates the people across the street. i drop her off int he house, say hi to a few yuppie douchebags and theiur semi hot wives, and go to find the keg. (not before snagging a corona from the host, who somehow thinks im 21 or doesn't care) I go out back to the keg and there are 3 guys standing around trying to figure out how to work it. /images/graemlins/confused.gif How do you get through college and not know how to work a keg? Im a godam freshman and I know. So I get beers for all of them, and it is this really bitter Sierra stuff. Eww. So I drink around 4 of those while talking to these guys about real estate in california. Then I see these hot 20 somethings go iknto the house. I bid adieu to my yuppie douchebag freinds, and go in to talk to those two. I talk to one of them a while and am feeling good when I let it drunkenly slip that I am a freshman. WEhoops. Now the host is pouring hard drinks for people (i down a few), and I end of hitting on the hot wife of one of the yuppies. This is where it turns bad. Im 18. The hjot moms daughter comes in, who has been sitting in the other room with her young friends. Ummmmmm shes 15, kinda hot, yada yada. She starts ta;lking to me and we go to the bathroom and make out. I get out when I start to feel bad and I see my grandmother drinking her fourth glass of wine. Now she's drunk and so am i so i tell her that we are leaving. We somehow make it back across the street and into the house, where i start up my computer to finish sweating CardsharpCook pwn the Grand Tournament V.

Virtually any Scotch drinker would tell you that for $150, you could have gotten 3 bottles of something good. But at least you're enjoying it, no matter how.

Next time, just realize that the most expensive is not necessarily the best, but just the most expensive. I am convinced that if I could figure a way to market it, I could sell toilet paper for $20 a roll, just because some people would be conviced it was better because it was $20 a roll.

I recently bought myself a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue. It is, IMO, perfect neat-it is smooth enough that, unless you are totally uncomfortable with scotch in general (in which case you shouldn't have bought it anyway), you should be able to enjoy it without ice.
My roommate, who is a giant alcoholic and scotch aficiando, scoffed when I offered him ice with his glass of Blue Label. It seems like such a waste to take an enjoyable and not harsh drink and dilute it for no real reason.
P.S. How much did you pay for your bottle? I got mine for $180 but I've heard that some places they for for as much as $300. This strikes me as ridiculous.

For scotch and bourbon I like to drink it out of a slightly chilled glass or with one ice cube. I like it to be a little below standard room temp of 72 degrees. Smoking a premium cigar is also recommended.

A "blended scotch" is about 50 percent single malt, and 50 percent rye or grain whisky. Thus, JW Blue is comprised of only single malt. SO, for anyone that said youd drink a single malt neat, but would add ice to Blue, youve just been pwned.

Another thing, who cares what someone wants to do with their own drink. I wouldnt even flinch if some dude bought a 10,000 dollar scotch and mixed it with Sunny Delight. To each his own.

Why are you getting all offensive? Alcohol is good for 3 things.
1. Get wasted.
2. Get laid.
3. You collect rare and expensive bottles of it.

If you want to get laid, it's understandable. If you want to get wasted, why are you buying expensive alcohol? Being drunk is being drunk whether it costs $20 or $200. You obviously are not a connoisseur. If you just wanted to try it out, there are bars that you can buy 1 drink to see how it is. But it says a lot if you have ask online how to drink a type of alcohol AFTER you paid for it.

Tony, the guys comes off like a douche here, but after I thought about it, I tend to agree with him. If he wants a good bottle thats fine, but why? I personally dont like scotch, and am not adept at knowing what I like, so I would never buy an expensive bottle, unless it was to compare and contrast good/bad drinks. Now bourbon is a different story. But, I kind of agree, liquor is good for tasting if you KNOW what you like, or getting drunk. Obv by his first by the OP he doesn tknow what he likes

I don't think there's anything wrong with mixing one of the cheaper blends like JW red or Dewar's with Coke, but mixing a single malt or Johnny Blue is just a waste.

Friend of mine who used to waitress at a bar for the hip-hop crowd used to get massive tips for teaching the guys that Dom Perignon Mimosas were a waste of 2 C-notes. Fresh squeezed orange juice with decent champagne was much cheaper, tasted better, and got the same result.
