When I click on Firefox 2 + 2 (my home page) opens right away. I can't get to anything else though. I can't check my gmail or hotmail. I also can't get to any other site.

I do have ZoneAlarm running but haven't changed any settings. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

Open a command prompt (start-run-cmd) and <font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>ping google.com</pre><hr /> and see if it resolves google.com an IP address and if it replies. Try a couple of other sites too, they should all resolve to an IP address and get replies.

It should look something like this...

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>Pinging google.com [72.14.207.99] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 72.14.207.99: bytes=32 time=89ms TTL=234
Reply from 72.14.207.99: bytes=32 time=86ms TTL=235
Reply from 72.14.207.99: bytes=32 time=92ms TTL=234
Reply from 72.14.207.99: bytes=32 time=87ms TTL=235

Ping statistics for 72.14.207.99:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 86ms, Maximum = 92ms, Average = 88ms</pre><hr />

I am betting that you will get the names resolved to IPs and get replies.

If your PC is set to use DHCP, the at the command prompt issue <font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>ipconfig /renew</pre><hr />

If you get an error that goes something like "operation can not be preformed on something not a socket" you have spyware or another application that has screwed up your TCP/IP stack and you will need to get some spyware removal tools and repairs tools to restore proper function.

I have this problem too, but it only happens when I am connected by the router we use at my apartment. And the only time it happens is when my computer goes to the screensaver for a good amount of time.

I just restart my computer and it works fine, but it is very annoying!

It sits there for about 30 seconds and I get:

Ping request could not find google.com. Please check the name and try again

well i was originally thinking that you had no internet connection and that your home page was cached into memory so it showed up. but its late and then i realized hello retard hes posting here so obviously he has functionality and connection with 2+2. I would try and do a search for something see if that works. My only idea right now at 1230 in the morning is that maybe a firewall is blocking things.

on a side note, i tried the ping google.com and also ping msn.com and both times the command prompt just sat there and did nothing. I am not sure i have ever seen that work, i went as far as doing ping http://www.msn.com and still just sat there.

how is your internet set up? wireless, cable modem, dsl, with router? etc. Maybe just a hard boot of your network/modem, and a reboot of the computer might work. (assuming you havent tried it already) other than that not quite sure.

I'm having a similar problem. I can't log on to aol or aim, when I try firefox, it says that google is unavailable, but I can get here through firefox. I also tried blockbuster.com, but nothing. I ran ad-aware and restarted my computer several times. I have no idea. I can log onto party though. It's all screwed up. Anyone have any clue what this could be, and how to fix it?

try turning zone alarm off and see if that helps.

you've probably got a firewall on you router anyway.

ps imo zonealarm is rubbish - a ping is not a 'hack attempt'! it's another example of software that tries to scare you into thinking it's useful.

your DNS service is down for some reason.

1) try to ping your DNS server.

2) bitch at your ISP as to why the DNS server isn't working.

There are other websites other than 2+2? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

How long have you had this problem?
I would try refreshing my IP, then restarting my computer.

Can you connect to Party/Site?

Thanks

I am pretty sure the problem was with my cable company. I called them and they said they had problems the night before. It was very strange though as I could only get to 2+2 of the websites I tried and could get to Stars but not Party.

I just started having this type of problem the last couple of days. It seems to happen after I log onto and off of Party. I'm using the ETrust protection package with EZ Firewall. Restarting my computer fixes it. Also, Turning my EZ Firewall off then turning it back on again fixes it - although I then have to go through the hassel of reaffirming Firewall Access for stuff.

I'm suspecting that Party is doing something new with its software that is fouling the Firewall. OTOH, I did have a pest called "NAV" something or other that got by my Pest Control a couple of times. Right now ETrust shows me clear of pests and viruses though.

Trouble is it doesn't happen Every time I log onto and off of Party. But I don't think it's ever happenned when I haven't logged onto and off of Party.

If it's a Party thing I assume people will be letting them know.

I just tried testing my Party Theory and can't seem to make the problem happen.

The problem seems to happen when my computer has been on for a long time - like 8 hours. I first noticed it after going to sleep while watching a Party 100-200 game. When I woke up and logged off Party I had the problem. Have also had it after long sessions on Party. But just logging onto to Party and logging back off doesn't seem to Trip It.

It seems to happen after a period of inactivity on my computer. Maybe PP has nothing to do with it.

Why would you want to go to another site besides 2+2?
