any thoughts on how to play ace rag in the blinds vs a steal raise. fold? call? reraise? this hand seems to have very little upside and big downside.

I tend to 3 bet or fold. Arag is strong, so don't feel scared to 3 bet em.

It really depends on their attempt to steal % whether you should raise or fold

U seem to use the word "stealraise" as if we could discuss it without knowing who is stealing.

Its probably your biggest problem.

I call in the BB and fold in the SB against most opponents.

I don't want the initiative with Ace-rag.

How do people play this post flop? If you 3-bet preflop you're auto-betting most flops presumably. At that point, are you largely committed to a showdown with Ace-high?

I find JT easier than Ace-rag, more likelikhood of a good pair on the flop and if you completely whiff folding doesn't feel like a bit mistake with J-high. Not that Ace-rage isn't a better hand, I just have a harder time navigating the postflop streets with it.

the reason I didnt specify whether the raiser was a LAG or reasonably tight player becuase most players will open raise with a wide range of hands on the button, so its not easy to put them on a hand and I wanted to discuss this situation without the added help of any player specifics.

This line of thinking is pretty interesting to me, one I have contemplated on occassion. Would you mind expanding on this?

totall player/stat/read dependent. I will 3-bet more often than not. From SB I will 3-bet because I want it HU. From BB I will often just call or even fold if the SB is pretty tight and has called. It is all so very dependent upon your opponents.

Since I'd like it to be community based modding, I need some feedback here:

Should I move this thread to SSHUSH?

Reasons for:
- it deals with arbitrary, basic PF stuff.
- the post is vague and our goal here is to discuss poker at a higher level...so if the post was more specific (ie some sort of player, table reads, how you're running, etc) we'd keep it.

Reasons against:
- it is still a situation that comes up in mid-high games.
- there is still potential to salvage some value out of it.

I ask cuz I received requests to do something about this thread, and as already stated, I wanna keep the forum as much a democracy as possible.

Gestapo? Or Laissez-faire?

I don't want the initiative because I want to collect some bets when I hit an ace and he's drawing dead and when the board is favorable to showdown Ace high I want him putting in bets, not me.
