Trance is in general very mellow music, almost all instrumental and very few vocals.

I think, technically speaking, trance is really really gay, while techno is merely really gay.

Trance is not a sub genre of techno. Trance and techno are two separate sub genres of electronica. Why everyone refers to anything with an electronic sound as techno, i will never know.

edit: and most people who say they listen to techno, dont. They are usually listening to some crap they downloaded off of kazza with file names that end in "techno remix"... this is the scum of the electronic music world, and doesnt sound anything like real techno.

Techno is horrible, trance is worse.
