Does anyone know statistical information or theoretical arguments, for the distribution of stack sizes at various stages of a tournament?

Less specifically, what can be said about mean and median stack sizes?

Obviously it would depend on the way the blinds increase, and the strategy of the players, but let's suppose these are `typical'.

Could you say something like an average stack is 8 big blinds and a median stack is 6 big blinds (purely guessed numbers) at some point in the tournament.

Also I was thinking of limit HE, but I guess it could be asked of NLHE too.

it will vary so much with the different kinds of tourneys. but in general the stack sizes near the end where the money is, are always too small for the blinds.

too bad your namesake was killed off in the name of protecting cows in the 1930,s.
