Hi, I'm buying a new system primarily for poker. This one caught my eye http://www.mdg.ca/en/store/?locations=20
key points:
IntelŽ Processor 3GHz
512MB KingstonŽ DDR Memory - Free Upgrade to 1GB Memory *(256x4)
19" LCD Monitor
...and some other stuff. Decent for $799CDN?
Also, most importantly, will that 19" monitor support 16x12?

I don't think that monitor will. But you could always ebay it and use that money to get one that will -

I don't know much about the rest of the system.

256x4 just seems nasty though.

You could probably get something that's primarily for poker a little cheaper. But I don't know where or what. Dell always comes to mind, and I'm sure they have some good coupons (www.edealinfo.com/dell) and other places.

I don't know how the prices scale to canada though.

What do I know though?

I belive he is refering to the fact that the 1G of ram comes form 4 stciks. This is a little odd the most I have ever seen a prebuild system get to 1G was 512 by 2, witch I would think is okay. I also doubt the monitor supports 1600X1200, I haven't seen a 19 inch that does. I woudl suggest ebaying it because unless you go through dell you won't find a 1600X1200 in a package. Also look at cost go, someone posted on of their 20 inch monitors that was only $400.

The only problem with the 256x4 arrangement is that it fills up all your slots and if you do want to increse in the future you will have to trash or sell at some or all of the memory to make room. If you have a 512x2 arrangement your can increase to 2G without sacrificing some of the memory you already paid for.

Good stuff thx for the replies - I just called the company and they told me I could upgrade to a 20" LCD (16x12) for $200. Also I'm sure I can see about getting 512's instead of 256's for a charge. With these added upgrades, do you think the deal is decent? Gotta buy within 7 hours

The current exchange rate puts that at about 700 us, and to me, it seems that just for poker you could get something cheaper. I know I just built a system for gaming w/o video card and monitor for about 800.

Other than the fact that I think you could get something cheaper it seems like a good system.

Not a lot of monitors do support it....and the few that I know of (Dell 2001fp) are pretty expensive (especially since we Canadians don't get as many nice Dell coupons.) I don't think you can get a decent PC with a high resolution (16X12) LCD for less than $1500 Canadian. I'd love to be proven wrong.
