View Full Version : Looking for NL games in SF Bay Area & San Diego

Alright, so next week I'm driving down to San Diego (from Oregon) through SF with my family. We'll be staying in Marin for one day, and then probably like a week in San Diego (San Marcos, to be specific) for Christmas. I'd like to play poker at both places along the way, either low blind NL (preferrably $1/$2, but I can live with $2/$5 if that's all I can get) or $3/$6 limit if no NL is available.

For the Bay Area (where I grew up, and was also never 21, so I don't know anything about local cardrooms), searching told me that the good NL games are at Lucky Chances and Casino San Pablo - which game is softer? What's the rake? Any other considerations?

In SD - seems the unanimous opinion is that Ocean's 11 rocks (and is certainly closest to San Marcos), but does it have low-stakes NL? What other cardrooms have NL?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Goofy:

Ocean's spreads 1/1 NL, 2/3 NL, and 5/5 NL. They also spread several 1/2, 2/4, 3/6, 4/8 Kill games. Its a very nice room.

Enjoy your trip and drive safely.

For the Bay Area, I have heard that Casino San Pablo has a 1/2 NL that is softer than the Lucky Chances 1/1/2 NL. But those are the only 2 places to play NL in the Bay Area as far as I know. I only play at the Lucky Chances one and they take $6/half hour in time charge. The only other consideration is how far you have to drive to get to one casino or the other. Just be careful of traffic and rush hour or you'll spend 2 hours driving to hit up a slightly softer game.

Just an update, Lucky Chances just switched to spread limit on that same game. $200 cap raise. Shouldn't really change the game too much.
