I was watching California's Gold hosted by Huell Howser a few months ago. He was in Bakersfield and stopped by this little soda shop/candy store named Dewar's that's been there since the 1930's. It looked so good, I noted the name and location. Well I finally drove up there from L.A. today(about 120 miles.), and Man Oh Man! If you go, you've got to try their strawberry ice cream soda. It's to DIE for! I'm so damn lucky I don't live anywhere near there, or I'd weigh a ton in no time.
Also, get some of their peanut butter chews. They're these little two inch taffy rolls with peanut butter in the middle. They're addictive, so go easy.
