Best Video Game of 1988-1994: Round 6

And Mario Brothers 3 is the champion of the winner's bracket! So much for all those who said "Super Mario World" should have been the game of choice to represent Mario, SMB3 did just fine on it's own.

Now we get to see who has any chance of competing... Note that Final Fantasy III (VI) got it's bust vs. Super Mario. Tetris and Super Mario Kart have one more bye.

Contra was busted by Mike Tyson's punch out by ONE vote. That's right folks, 279 votes, 139-140.

Ok, since we have a bunch more small field matches to finish off the Loser's Bracket, they will only run one day. And I'll add a special interest question to each thread for the next few polls.

Punch-out is the game I would most like Nintendo to remake or reissue in some form (Super Punch Out on DS?). But Street Fighter was a phenomenon.

I still remember the first day I walked into the arcade (Spaceport) at the local mall and was like "what are these people in line for?" I of course stood in line and got throughly trounced by some guy who knew all of Guile's special moves while I tried to understand why there were six buttons.

OK, I needed to wax video game before I went to bed. All done.

it's a best game poll right? people talked about smw not because it best represented the mario franchise, but because they felt it was the best game.

It looks great, but reminds me a lot more of Strider than Contra. My favorite games were always the platform games. Revenge of Shinobi, Strider, and Ghouls N' Ghosts at the top of the list.

EDIT: I'm biased against Nintendo because I have large hands and the controllers were nearly unusable for me. That's why all the games I liked were on the Genesis.
