Anyone know how much much and how long a train ride from NYC to AC is?

You'd have to take a train to Philly and then a train from Philly to AC on NJ transit. It would take longer and cost more than a bus ride.

The fastest means of public transportation from NYC to AC is a bus. Greyhound leaves from the Port Authority every half hour. Tickets are $30, and you get between $17-20 back from your casino destination. The bus ride is 2 hours and 20 minutes. The bus clientele is not the greatest.

the showboat bus gives you a $20 bill as opposed to some of the casinos that want you to play slots with the "cash" they give you...

I am actually putting an ad on craiglsit for people intersted in carpooling to AC - I have a car but hate the ride down there by myself as well as the cost of the gas and tolls if I pay them all myself...

if you are intersted feel free to pm
I go down two to three times a week

When you get a $20 slot ticket, like at Bally's just stick it in any slot machine and then hit the cashout button.

ceasers and sands make you play slots...you can't cash it out as cash

The point is, once you put the voucher in the slot machine, the machine registers the credits, then if you cashout of the machine you get a cashable slot voucher. Just like if you put currency in and then hit cashout.

Sands and Resorts (you can get match play coupons for table games at Resorts if you ask for them at the cage) make you play. The others don't. I take a bus often from Cheesequake.

I have taken the buses from the port authority many times. I just avoid the casinos that make you play the slots.
I really am amazed that no trains go there direct, but thanks for the info.

I was curious to see how long the train ride would take. Amtrak NY to Philidelphia is 1.5 hours, and then NJ transit Philly to AC is 1.5 hours. In bad weather or during rush hours the bus can take 3 hours, so it's not that bad. The only thing is Greyhound is $10 round trip and the train is $60

Amtrak to Philly is more like $110 round trip. You can take NJT/Septa to Philly, but that will make the trip to AC more like 4-5 hrs.

NJ Transit NY Penn to AC (transfers in Trenton and Philly) is $25.75 and takes about 4.5 to 5 hours total.

That doesn't actually work. Most of these vouchers only let you keep your winnings -- i.e., they keep separate track of your initial credit and your winnings. You can only cash out the latter portion.

you really gonna live it up on 20 bucks? just roll it in the slot and hope you hit.

If you're all going down there to play 2/4 and 3/6 its like playing a slot machine anyway

Showboat gives you $20 cash when you get off the bus, and you don't even have to go thru the casino.

don't know of trains but I took that AC-NYC bus run into Penn Station and it was seamless - once I found the Bus Depot /images/graemlins/grin.gif - I was unable to catch one from my Casino.

Take the bus - it's just a couple hrs and goes by fast -

I was impressed with the NJ/NY transit system and picked up most of up by the time I left NYC.

Interested in taking a bus from Port Authority. How much are round trip rides? Can I return to NYC at any time or is there a specific time on the ticket? Are there buses going to various hotels that I could choose which one to be dropped off at?

There are busses leaving like every half hour from various casinos. You are not assigned or guaranteed a seat on any particular bus home, just show up and get in line.

I don't know if the schedule is online somewhere as I havn't made this trip in several years. I do know that there are schedules at Port Authority.

Again, Greyhound is $30 round trip, and you get $17-20 back from the casino when you arrive. The tickets are a 4-day open return (i.e., you can go back on any bus within 4 days of your arrival). The buses stop at different casinos, but I always take the first bus and either walk or jitney to my destination. The schedule is on the Greyhound website (http://greyhound.com/products_services/casino_nj.shtml).

I'm impressed you were able to find a bus in Penn Station

Hi Tony-

As far as I know, there is no direct service from Penn Station to Atlantic City. However, you can take an Amtrak train to 30th street Philadelphia and take a New Jersey Transit Train (Atlantic City Line) to AC. I think that the Amtrak fare is about $59 and New Jersey Transit is about $7 each way

Hi,
I'd like to go to A/C sometime to play poker. Maybe TonyPaladino would like to go too. He lives in Windsor Terrace.
