Im a freshman in college, and between a little money being made playing some untold card game, and (hopefully) some sporatic assorted acting jobs, I need a part time job.

I am just wondering what the best job would be. Obviously waiting tables is an option, and I thought about going to dealing school and working at one of the local indian casinos, but they would probably give me POS hours and the closest ones are about 30 minutes away.

Someone suggested selling cars, the bonus obviously being commision, but I don't know.

I'm trying to be an actor, probably take a few classes, and i'm good with people.

My ideas thus far:

Waiter
Dealer
Sales
Real Estate (work for my faimly, a + and a -)

Any advice/suggestions? Should I just try to get better at p**** and say F a part time job?

As a student, you probably have lots of free time available during prime breaking and entering hours.

You know what I've read about a few times -- professional dog walkers. Aside from having to scoop some poop, the job is easy and outdoors/healthy, and some of the people doing that are surprisingly well paid. Rich people don't want to be bothered, but they love pampering their pets.

Is this a summer job or a during the year job? I could probably land you a pretty cool summer job if you wanted.

it's not glamorous, but it beats a part-time job.

that's how i got through college. i didn't live like a king or anything, but at least i had beer money and a bit left over for pseudo nice dates and the like.

that, or a campus job. they pay pretty well too.

He has been forever shamed by your performance. No one would pay him for that now.

Maybe 23 sticks in an hour?

join the army reserves. it's pretty easy, and good money...and if you're too busy with school you don't have to go.

Deliver pizzas.

It's easy, not too bad of money, and it's amazing what chicks will wear answering the door, sometimes.

...however, the hours can sometimes suck (weekend nights).

I am pretty sure bad_beatz has it on his site. Not sure what the site name is, but a little searching will get you there. It is linked to in the NYC crimson challenge thread if you can find that.

I really like your avatar. It is hypnotizing. The best plan i can come up with is read a lot of books about dogs. Then you can be an animal psychiatrist.buy a cheap office, get some kinda certification, frame it. then hang up pictures of animals in contemplative poses and black and white pictures of random objects.

You can serve at 18...you just can't drink on the job...

Movie theatres were always fun when I was in school, I spent a good 4+ years working in the movies. Plus, you get to watch free movies... and it always seems to be a large number of decent girls working there...

I think waitering is a job requirement in itself for wannabe actors.

12-12-2005, 01:12 PM
Where do you live? Do you have a readily available theatre/rep, something of that nature? Look in the phone book for production/casting companies, and just cold call them.

just to throw out a serious idea, I know someone who goes to Kstate and made 14k in three summer months bieng a truck driver. There are apparently a number of companies that hire part time truckers. but the idea is probably to be a waiter unless you are somewhat strong, in which case you can make 15 bucks an hour doing some part time slave labor, at tons of different places.

everyone should have to work at McDonalds once in their life. Then all the jobs after that won't seem so bad.

Hi Crimson,

Work at a coffee shop. I hear it's a fun gig and you get all the coffee you can drink. This would be worth like 10K a year for me...

I don't think you can possibly get hired for a bartending gig because you are too young to drink and there's lots of competition for the jobs. The indian casino dealer is OK, I suppose, but I bet dealing school takes awhile and it costs money, I'm sure, which is probably an issue.

Real estate is a good option, though, especially long-term.

Or you can drink more hot sauce...

real estate and/or waiter. all aspiring actors/actresses wait tables/bartend/cocktail, so you'll meet lots of other actors which is good also. if you're good w/people you should make good money waiting tables, much better than you could do at most other jobs available to you (starbucks, record store, etc).
