First off, I think this forum should be secured some how. I've read every post on every forum since finding this site and have tried to incorporate the srategies into my game. The results have been excellent. I find myself betting good draws, raising in late position for free cards (amazing how well that usually works), changed my starting hand requirements, and betting and raising a lot more. I'm also not chasing draws unless there's the right pot odds to do so. I think I've gone from weak-tight to neutral-tight (still need to raise more PF) but there's no doubt, I've made some huge, positive changes. So to conclude this paragraph - THANKS ALL!!! Sharing your knowledge is something a lot of people wouldn't do. I for one very much appreciate it.

My next thought is why do you suppose so many players still play so incredibly loose and continue to struggle with their play? If your going to gamble, shouldn't you learn as much as possible about the game before you commit your money? That just seems SO basic a concept yet is missed by the majority of players. Don't get me wrong, the more fish the merrier but why don't more people look to improve? It's not like there's a lack of resources.

And lastly, I had a most amusing streak last night of folding preflop 46 straight times (with the exception 2 unraised pot BB calls). And I'm not just waiting for AA or KK either. Anyone have similar streaks (good or bad) they'd like to share? The downside, and this PO'ed me big time, was that when I did bet a few hands right afterward, some idiot posted on the chat "Look out, Festus woke up, he must have a big hand" as the hand was being played. I felt that was a serious breech of etiquette. Do you agree? Should I have thrown in a loose PF call just to vary my play?

Folding marathons suck, but happen from time to time. The guy was out of line with his comment. I would not worry about changing my play too much. People usually don't pay enough attention to make it profitable.

I think it's pretty easy to explain why there are so many bad players around. Simply put, playing well is boring. Playing well means playing tight. Playing tight means folding a lot. Folding a lot means not playing many hands. And that is very, very boring. That (along with the drop) is one of the primary reasons I hardly ever play live anymore. For most people, they want to be in the action, which means playing their hands, which means playing too loose, which means playing poorly. When you compound this with bad postflop play, it's a recipe for disaster. And for some, it really doesn't matter, they're just there to have fun and maybe win some money once in a while. Some recreational poker players view poker as no different from blackjack or any other casino table game. They're there to have fun, but they more or less expect to lose in the long run. And dammit, I'm not gonna disappoint em /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Loose calls are bad, loose raises are much better.

Breach of etiquette, No. This is perfect. But, yes, he is an idiot for telling you that he's watching you. Now you can use this information against him.

NO! A loose prelfop RAISE.

Example:
Online 2/4

I played maybe 2 hands in 2 hours (130+ hands), I get KK in the CO and open-raise, I steal the blinds.

3 hands later I get QQ and open-raise, I steal the blinds, next hand I get 7d5d and open-rasie in earlier postition, 3 cold callers, flop 4d Td 6d /forums/images/icons/grin.gif Turn: Ac River: As
I get called down and my hand is good. Hell breaks lose about my raise...and I get all the action I need for the rest of my session. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
