Why on God's green earth do people ridicule the fish?
Driving them away from the tables.
It completely baffles me.

Good post, Hyde. I play low limits and cheap SNGs and see this too often. Usually I let the first comment or two slide. But more than that, and I post something like "If you're so great, why aren't you playing 20-40 and trying to win some real money?" And if I get a reply to that, I post "If you were really a poker genius, you wouldn't be pissing on the people who are building the pots you're trying to win." The second comment usually gets the a-hole to leave the table.

I didn't vote because there is NO valid reason to critcize a bad player...I've been watching it happen (in B&M casinos) for 40 years....Bad News: the people who do it will never change /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Many (good) players have irrational beliefs.
For example: "I'm the best player at this table, so I must win, and if I don't it's terribly unfair." and "If my hand is a favorite it should win, and it's terrible if it doesn't." And apparently many people believe that "players who play very badly and are morons and should not play so bad."

If you believe this, consciously or subconciously, you will be pissed every time one of the above happens.

My standard line: "Is this clinic free?" That usually calms down the rabble.

I collect stamps.
I just spent $4000 on a piece of paper 1"X 2" printed about
130 years ago in a country you never heard of.
It's none of your goddam business how I spend my money.
It's none of my goddam business how you spend yours.

Which is why I keep the chat shut off........

Some people do change. When I started playing poker I figured that if anybody ever made a play and it ended up costing me it was my duty to remind him that. Since than I have learned to stop and rarely if ever use chat. The only time I ever get in arguements with people is as a joke where I make ridiculous statments, or occasionsly if I am on mega-tilt.

I have never understood why someone would want a fish to start playing better. Now that whole telling them about 2+2 thing aside (because I think its a stupid argument), why would you berate someone to play better?

Because sometimes they make mistakes on the bubble that cause you to lose Equity.

Ever come across a post here that says something to the effect of: there are too many fish randomizing the $11s and messing my game up, I think I'd do better at the $33s where there are fewer donks?

People remember the times that a play they deem stupid costs them equity, but forget the stupid plays that help them out.

You think this happens more often than mistakes that cause you to gain equity?

Come'on. Everyone knows the real reason people make fun of the bad players is because all the cool kids are doing it. Cool kids = always right.

In a recent SNG, someone made a min-raise from EP, another player pushed and EP folded. I commented: "min-raises aren't getting much respect". A few hands later there were two limpers then someone pushed and both limpers folded. I commented: "limpers aren't getting any respect either". Does this qualify as ridicule?

Dude I could show you guys a bazillion hands where the player played stupid and I was super happy about it. Ask Bones...I've IMed him like 20 today already. Fortunately I'm running goot and have won 18 of em.

But yeah, don't criticize fish. It's bad business, and most of all it makes you an [censored].

That's a$$hole without the $$. Get it? Cause you're an a$$hole but you're losing $$ when you teach them...

I do it when they ridicule a player thats even worse. Why I do it? I dont know I just do it.
Sometimes I do it when its a truly horrible play and everybody is ridiculing the play, I think I do it because they might fold later on /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

No, I read your comments as humorous observations. Not sure I would have given you a lol, but it was at least worth a quiet smile. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Well I just joined up here and if the humor is this good on a daily basis I might not find any time to play poker.

i'm a big fan of talking, especially when playing live, and being light-hearted.

keeps people relaxed, having fun.... you only need half a dozen funny lines to use over and over.
