I'm going to the Borgata in a couple of weeks, and was looking at the tourneys. Borgata offers STTs every day. Here's the structure...

1st - $25 - $50
2nd - $50 - $100
3rd - $75 - $150
4th $25 $100 - $200
5th $50 $200 - $400
6th $75 $300 - $600
7th $100 $500 - $1000
8th $200 $800 - $1600
9th $300 $1000 - $2000
10th $500 $1500 - $3000
11th $1000 $2000 - $4000
12th $1000 $3000 - $6000
13th $2000 $5000 - $10,000

General Rules

1. Players will start with $2000 in tournament chips.
2. Buy-in time will be 10:00 am until 10:00 pm.
3. Each level will last 15 minutes.
4. 1st place finisher will receive $500 in cash, 2nd place finisher will receive $100 in cash.
5. Management reserves the right to change or cancel tournaments.
6. Tournament Director or Floor Person decisions are final.

the borgata STTs are pretty good.

or at least, you wont find better live ones in atlantic city, for whatever thats worth.

the structure escalates, IMO, a bit faster than a party SNG. the competition is ridiculously soft and you should be able to do fairly well with a decent understanding of "pushbotting" (i'm getting really burnt out on that term, but whatever).

Thank you.

I was thinking I was going to play because the competition was roughly the same as a party 6, 11, or 22.

However, it seems fast.

My only problem is that iot pays the top two.

I like to play for top 3 and then go nuts.

if nothing else, they are fun, and fairly cheap, and i'm pretty sure i have a bigger edge in them than any ring games. but its definitely a fast structure. you just arent going to find casino stts that dont have fast structures.

the starting stacks are too high IMO - give the weekend gambler a chance. But I'm sure they are easy.

Starting with 40 BBs with the blinds doubling in 15 minutes, which is an orbit if you're very lucky, is too high a starting stack? Do you mean the starting stack is too small?

Agree on the casino point. Casinos want quick tourneys to suck players in, then hope they wander over to BJ, Roulette, etc.

I've played quite a few STTs in Vegas where the starting stacks were 600 with the same blinds and time schedule. Fish survive in calm waters.

Bump.

I'm going Thursday. Does anyone here have any advice for these STTs?

I would treat this like a satellite. You could probably seach for posts on satellite hands and satellite strategy, as you will be playing for first.

Play position, with a fast structure taking down pots is key, play a lot of hands on the CO and button and try to take down pots if you sense weakness. Open raise in late position with hands that can flop big (like 76/images/graemlins/diamond.gif/images/graemlins/diamond.gif) but not hands that will trap you (like Q2offsuit).
