View Full Version : 25k to spend on used SUV... you pick?

12-09-2005, 08:35 PM
GF wants a new car, and has vetoed anything that is not huge. I am thinking like maybe a Lexus RX300 or Tahoe. Actually think like 30k retail since i have lots of car dealer buddies. She wants an Infinity FX35 but I can't swing it. Thoughts?

SUV's are dumb, ugly and a waste of money.

If you do get one, make sure you pimp that sucker out with lots of American flags, support our troops magnets, and a soccer ball magnet.

12-09-2005, 09:15 PM
my rationalization is that I am afraid of her getting hit by somebody in one, so I'd prefer her to be in one also.

That's some damn good rationalization! Are you afraid to let her cross the street by herself? Does she need your help to go potty too?

rx300s are fantastic vehicles and they still treat used owners like royalty at the dealerships

You're paying for it, get what you want or drop the GF.

yukon denali - you should be able to get an 03 w medium miles around there. i've had a few of them and they are fantastic.

12-09-2005, 09:48 PM
real men don't drive rx300s. they're minivans.

a yukon on 26s is obviously the right answer.

Oh and also...

Does your girlfriend also keep your balls in a small jewel-encrusted box next to her bed?

nah, 24s. She has a habit of curbing them. Actually, I'll probably just do 23" Davin rims. You know the ones...

12-09-2005, 10:24 PM
if a broad ever curbed my rims, they'd never find her.

those rims look weird for some reason. is that chrome made to spin over the matte black rim? if so, that's hot. otherwise, that's just weird.

12-09-2005, 10:25 PM
yep, just how you picture it. teh hotness. pretty rare too, the only spinners I'd roll.

edit: btw, for you spinner haters: these are not ghetto ones, these are 7k/set, ABEC-5 ball bearings, heatsinked to vent the brakes, etc.

12-09-2005, 10:27 PM
i believe 'teh hotness' is the proper description for rims of such a nature. i like you already.

edit: anyone else reminded of inline skate wheels when he said abec-5? or was i the only dorky kid who played street hockey?

12-09-2005, 10:30 PM
yes, I actually thought of that when I was writing it. I used to rock ABEC-5 bearings on these:

but then I got sponsored by kryptonite.

If my choice was to get an SUV or die i'd probably get Murano.

12-09-2005, 10:34 PM
doc,

we're talking about SUVs, not minivans /images/graemlins/frown.gif

capo,

your ideas are intriguing to me and i wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

yasher,

a Denali is significantly more expensive than a regular yukon or tahoe. do you feel I must be Denali'd to be a true boss? If not, I would still get the HID kit on the regular one. Your thoughts pls...

capo

12-09-2005, 10:49 PM
capo,

i'm a huge fan of the older tahoe look, as well... i'm talkin like, the 98ish body style. but if you're looking at newer tahoe vs yukon denali, here goes:

dont buy a denali, unless you can get a bomb ass deal on one. they're not worth the extra tens of thousands that chevy wants for the "denali" name. and, from what i know of these vehicles, that's absolutely what you're paying for. the nameplates and the grille.

if i were to go this route - and trust me, i'd love to, once i find some money /images/graemlins/wink.gif - i'd buy a 2003ish tahoe w/leather and as many options as you want/can find used, and then spend the $10k i saved from not buying a denali to get my rims, my sound, etc. oh, and there's a very good chance that i'd buy the yukon denali nameplates and put them on the ride... either that, or just shave all the decals.

my thoughts.

12-09-2005, 10:53 PM
I'm totally there with the shaving decals. I really like that look. Of course the custom grille goes without saying.

Honda Accord Hybrid is your ONLY option.

BTW theres no point in getting an SUV. They are a pain in the ass to drive, they are gas hogs, they are slow lumbering high maintenance crap mounds. The only advantage is you can crush smaller cars should you get in a wreck.

Able to take on any SUV in a crash, roomy, and I'll bet you can find a used one for a song.

You can pick up a 5 year old school bus for about a grand. Most school districts specify a maximum vehicle age of 5 years, so 5 year old school buses are nearly worthless to the pupil transportation industry.

Aside from hauling stuff around, going off road, carrying more people, and all the other things a sedan can't do?

Go with a Toyota 4Runner, best reliability and the older body style (pre-19998 maybe?) looks pretty good. Oh, and I don't care how much you paid for your "spinners," they're incredibly ghetto.

12-10-2005, 02:42 PM
heh, man spinners are pretty cool. i'm not trying to be a rapper or anything but admit it, you check them out.

12-10-2005, 04:16 PM
Anybody who says they don't look at spinners is lying. Whether you look and say, "hey, cool!" or you look and say, "wow, he's a [censored] moron," isnt up for debate... but you look.

Spinners are tight. That Escalade is tight, but I really prefer the look of the Yukon/Tahoes... not that I wouldnt drive one /images/graemlins/wink.gif

cool, thanks. i hope 'floater' is the general name and not one for that specific product. they're definitely different enough from spinners to warrant their own title.
