Ok, I just got some Linksys router (WRT54GC) and now I'm trying to hook it up to my computer. However when I try to install the software it says it can't find it. I reset the router and nothing. Please advise.

Don't use the software, you don't need to.
Plug your internet (cable, dsl, whatever) into the router's WAN/Internet port
Plug your computer into one of the LAN ports
Make sure your computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP=on)
Go to a CMD prompt (run-->cmd)
type in ipconfig
Your IP address should be something like 192.168.1.100
Your gateway should be 192.168.1.1
If these numbers don't match up, type an ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew. This will get a new IP address from your router
Go in internet explorer to 192.168.1.1. Log in with the default username/password specified in your manual or quickstart guide
Change any settings you need to
Profit

Thanks for the help. I think the router is broken so I'm going to return it. The computer can't seem to find it.
another common problem is people forget to restart there modem
after plugging in the router.
other then that guy above posted great details i can go into specifics if need be but thats what you got your user manual for and btw the default pass for linksys is "admin" no username

Also are you using a cross over cable (usually yellow) or a straight ordinary ethernet cable. That can make a difference.
Follow the above instructions.
