That's the first thing that came to my mind.

I got a tiny amplifier for my portable DVD player because the sound is absurdly low(Toshiba) but basically headphones are all about going deaf early.

Those are studio quality headphones and have high impedance. The higher the impedance the lower the sound. Some headphones are like 600ohms and sound like the phones are broken because the sound is like a whisper.

vn. both of those headphones are extremely high impedance and need an amplifier to power them correctly. the bottom thing is a DAC, which converts your digital music into analog music, and makes it sound incredibly good.

the senns are mine, the beyers are my friends, he likes the beyers better, but i think hes kind of biased. i think they each do certain things well, but i enjoy listening to the senns more.

you are not cool until you get a tube headphone amp that glows in the dark.

astroglide,

Headphone amps are not designed to make the music louder. They are used to drive high quality headphones properly. A headphone amp with high quality headphones is not much louder than a normal setup.

i think astro would argue (probably correctly) that even a "normal setup" is causing severe damage to america's youth's ears

yes that's my basic perspective. between ipods and people using headphones instead of speakers when computing people are going to blow them out.
