twelve left. ten are paid. 9, 10 get 150, 1st gets 3400. You have T3000 left, and there are about T80K in play. One short stack to your left and two on the other table. You are UTG+1, and the blinds are 500/1000 (1000/2000 limit).

You are dealt JJ.

Clear raise. And don't fold the last T1000 if bet into on the flop with overcards, unless the person betting is such a rock that there really is 99% chance you're beat.

If you try to limp into the money here, you're trying to barely make 1 unit, instead of going for a win of 23 units. And, some of the time you quit and try to limp in for $150, you won't make it.

Anybody who folds your hand in this spot has not got what it takes, IMO.

Thank, Greg. I got a little flak (not much) about not limping into the money on this one (ace came, and my one caller had one)
Now, how about this:
instead of raising, limp re-raise (assuming the table is aggressive enough). I've noticed that there are always people willing to raise up a short stack. I think that, by doing this, you can either: 1) get all of your money in on the flop, so you get full value. or 2) if the l-rr fails, you have enough (a full BB) to jack up the flop and maybe get someone to fold.
Just a thought.
