The only live Stud game in my area has the following structure:

$1 Ante

$1 - $5 Spead betting on every round
(Bring in is $1 - $5 too)

Betting structure isn't doubled when a pair shows.

Is this typical for live games in other casinos? How does it change your approach to the game?

It seems that there is alot less folding on third street because the pot if $8 just from the antes. Also people stay in longer because bets don't double in the later rounds. (Although this could also be be part of the difference between live and on-line.)

That is a huge ante, I don't really play spread limit, but I think alot of casino's use 1-5 with no ante, not positive though.

You have to fight for the big ante's, you can play alot more hands for profit. Playing to tight will destroy your bankroll.

yeah, most of the places i've been the low limit is 1-3 or 1-5 with no ante, $1 force BI. With the dollar ante you can play a more standard game and raise early trying to knock people out. Without the ante I think it is better to trap with big starting hands or you often find yourself winning 1 dollar with your split aces. Since there is already $8 to fight over I think you can play it more like a 2/4 game.
